I didnt, he lied and played the fans like he always does. Youd have to be gullible to fall for that. I also think he got very lucky with the promotion, just picked a formation and stuck with it and it worked. It clearly didnt work in the PL and he was quickly found out as a poor manager. Look at Adkin, got 2 promotions on the trot and then lost a game against man u with his subs. Its a totally different level for managers.
I criticised him myself last season, he was losing it, so you're wrong there! You just used to piss me off insisting on doing that COLIN bollocks
Don't know what Colin has to do with it either. But if you want to compare I think you'll find Colin edging in front now in points per PL game, but more significant look at the Funds and Players Colin had available, compared to what MH has had. Whatever I think MH still needs a bit more time - 6 weeks roughly!
. (Ozzie, I happen to agree with that. He shouldn't have been sacked when he was. Hughes hasn't been great since he came in.)
**** it, I'm in BUT ONLY FOR 3 LEAGUE MATCHES. After that, if we are still ****ed, I'm hunting for bear!!!!! NO EXCUSES.
Of course its a totally different level. You need the players to adapt. You can't say adkins is a poor manager after 2 consecutive promotions and 3 games in the premier league. That is the most ridiculous statement I've read on here in ages!
Nope. But there are going to be bad games when you have a bad squad riddled with injuries and suspensions. I think we all expect too much too soon and get way ahead of ourselves. To roll out a cliche, we're still a work in progress. Progress being the operative word, which you can't judge after just 3 games.
I'm not judging after 3 games Bob, I'm also basing it on last season's stint under Hughes. I hold him responsible for the lack of discipline and overly negative tactics that put us into a last day relegation nailbiter.
Fair enough, I'm more inclined to blame Warnock and some shabby signings he made. I'll judge Hughes after a full season, or at least half of one where he's had a summer to work with them and sign who he wants.
Fair enough I just don't see any 'spark' or to be perfectly frank, any system. I would also like to see a settled side. Have we played the same starting 11 since returning to the Prem? Is it any wonder the players dont know if they're coming or going?
You seem to be in exactly the same place on him as me. I'm voting you vice president of the 'Hughes is clueless' club!
It's all very well restrospectivley saying those string of home wins were boring, but nobody was saying that at the time. I thought it was pretty exciting getting a legitimate three points against arsenal after having been genuinely the better side over the course of the match. They just couldn't break us down, we were rock solid. Hughes had a salvage job last year, he was thrown in at the deep end. We had a freak of a squad, incredibly lobsided and imbalanced, ill-suited to the premiership. We played in a way that was required to get the job done. Avoid relegation at all costs, that was Hughes' task. I felt sorry for him on a number of occasions, the ridiculous number of red cards and the resulting suspensions for key players. The dodgy reffing decisions we blamed on the FA trying to get back at us.. I didn't hear many people complaining about Hughes during the preseason. It's only now that we've had a run of 2/3 poor performances that some are retrospectively saying Hughes was such a terrible manager last season too. The turmoil at QPR was hard for everyone. He didn't really have his own squad of players or the time to stamp his style upon them, it was just "here is what you've got, keep us up with it". January is never the ideal time to strengthen a relegation threatened side. I think it's indisputable that the performances this season haven't been acceptable, given the investment in players/infrastructure. Probably, ultimately, the in/out camps are seperated by whether they think they've seen enough to say the performances will/won't improve. Are the results due to honest rectifiable mistakes, due to "gelling" issues, a lack of stability whilst the window has been open, due to the side still being under constuction whilst it lacked mbia granero et al? Or is it all down to a deeper rooted deficiency in Hughes' managing abilities. I suppose time will tell. Two good games and all the Hughes concerns will probably be forgotten though.
Unless you have a crystal ball how can you view any game other than retrospectively? I don't think anyone is calling for Hughes head yet, and nor do they want to. But the fact remains that as the 13th highest paid football manager in the world we should expect better results and performances. Especially away from home where 2 points from 33 is unacceptable, in fact it is embarrassing. People were on here doubting our displays during that home run. In fact I at the time likened watching QPR to watching England, difficult and frustrating. I still believe that it was us the 12th man that got us over the line in those home games as much as anything Hughes said in the dressing room. As for Hughes inheriting a poor side, Martin O'Neil around the same time inherited a poor and struggling Sunderland team, that were worse off than us. He came in and done the business straight away. Do you think Hughes could of gone there and done the same? Let's hope that in due course, he can deliver what he says he will. But for now we can only comment on what our eyes have seen and it's not good. *** http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/the-rundown/top-30-best-paid-managers-180530845.html***. *** My mistake, he is actually joint 11th in the world. £3m a year.
