Have our corners improved then?

Pards had said in pre season that one of the key areas we were looking to improve on this term was our corner and free taking.
We're now a couple of games in so has anyone noticed any significant improvement?
Personally I've seen nothing to suggest the work on the training ground is starting to pay off yet but it is after all, early days yet.
    What's your view?

    no

Cabaye is trying to curl, with pace and lift with his instep, which is not that easy to do
    and so it shows

If we got points for hitting the first defender (cross bar challenge like) then I reckon we'd be top of the league, and that includes from open play.
Even in the box, any cut backs seem to be sloppy and end up at a defenders feet.
All in all, service into the danger area from pretty much everywhere has been terrible so far this season.

No Marvo struggles to get over the first man. HBA and Cabaye overhitting and missing our big targets.

Don't know what he do on corners, the but the standard of corners from an individual always seems to get worse, been happening for years.

I think its perhaps that we don't have the biggest team and therefore to get our lads on the end of the balls, they have to be in the perfect area, at hte perfect pace, with a perfectly timed run...

I hate short corners, but I'm fairly sure Ben Arfa's penalty is the only time a corner has led to a goal so far this season?

No. Don't see how hard it is just to loft one into the centre of the box.

This. I play in goal and can do it at least 60% of the time.

Perhaps we need to return to the Barton corner, lobbing it with backspin to the backpost.

Improvement would mean we were once worse at them than we are now and I don't think that's possible.

I don't really think it's Cabaye's fault for most of them.

It's like when people continuously say "wtf that was ****, if the corner is hit low and the first man clears".

There seems to be plans for these sorts of corners, and they never seem to come off.

We might as well just get our big men in the box to draw in their defenders, and find Ben Arfa in space and let him try something clever. Or instead of going straight into the box, play a few little short passes and get our players to work on their shots from outside the box.

I liked the corner we used to do when we used to find Coloccini on the edge of the box unmarked, and he almost scored quite a few times.

Cabaye is no Seb Larrson like, if you ask me he's living off his one free kick vs Man U (was class I admit) but whenever I watch his set pieces they are very poor standard.

Cabaye is a different player. Cabaye is a central midfielder that has the vision and technique to pick out players short and long distance.

Larsson is a winger and freekick specialist, who can deliver a fantastic ball and whip in a fantastic cross. Larsson is more like Raylor, than Cabaye.

Not comparing them as overall players Tash as Cabaye is far superior there. Just I don't rate him on set pieces.

In terms of firing them on goal, he's a great set piece taker, but his corners are average and his creative freekicks aren't working.

He almost scored a great freekick in the dying seconds yesterday, but for a great save, and he scored two fantastic freekicks last season, and was close to having a couple more.

Cabaye can deliver a ball, sebs alot more consistant at it though! Who would you prefer on a 25 yard free kick out of Raylor and Larsson?

SAJNUFC - Larrson every day, but I am biased, but the accuracy consistency and whip Seb gets on his set pieces are phenomenal, possibly the best in the league. I don't know much about Raylor but apparently he's good, I thought the free kick he scored at Sol was more due to Migs positioning then pure skill but I don't watch him enough to comment.

Tash - I'll take your word for it on Cabaye you watch him more than I do.

We have no players that can take a good set piece, our set-pieces never mind just corners are by far the worst in the league(at least).

The only thing more frustrating than how poor we are at corners is trying to work out why we're so bad with the players we have. It should be an area of strength and if we ever found a way of getting it right we'd see a whole lot more points in the bag.

The one good thing about our corners is that Krull hasn't started taking them yet. Am I the only one who has a heart attack everytime I see him popping up to take a free kick 60 yards from goal? Its not even as if his delivery is that good. How long until the ball makes it back to his goal before he does??
