Good News On Ryan Taylor But Simpson Diagnosis Unclear
9:10 am, Monday, September 3rd, 2012 by Ed Harrison

Newcastle have made only an average start to the season with 4 points from their first three league games, two of which were at home, and we had Danny Simpson limp off in the first half yesterday with a hamstring injury, but no news yet on just how bad the injury is, but Danny will miss a few weeks before he returns.

Cheick Tiote will miss the two leg play-off tie between the Ivory Coast and Senegal, which will give Newcastle a huge problem if Senegal win the game, because we’ll be without Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba in January and some of February.

And Newcastle don’t really have too many option to replace them – even though we knew this was a possibility throughout the summer months – but couldn’t bring in a top striker.

Cheick played the first game of the season against Tottenham, but seemed to be injured early in the game, but he stayed on the full game, and that seems to have been a mistake in retrospect.

But the central midfielder could be fit for the game at Everton in two weeks time, which looks a really tough game on paper.

This is what Alan Pardew said about Cheick:

“He’s not fit but we’re expecting him to be in and around it for the Everton game. We’ll have to work hard on him but I’m hoping, fingers crossed, we can get him right for that.”

But there’s some decent news today from Alan Pardew on Ryan Taylor, that his Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury is straightforward, and not too much damage, which means he could be back quicker than first thought, from the serious injury.

This is what Alan had to say to the local press on Ryan:

“Usually you do some ligaments or a cartilage and it really is problematic.” “Ryan looks straight-forward, there’s not a lot of swelling.”

“The cruciate’s detached so it’s purely a case of putting it back and I think he’ll come back a little bit quicker than most cruciate injuries.”

“The tracksuits was Colo’s idea. He called me on Saturday. We didn’t want to say ‘get well’ because there’s people in a lot worse position than Ryan. It’s just nice to have that spirit within the group.”

The tracksuits the lads wore before the game yesterday had the words “Ryan Taylor – Over The Top” on the back, which was a nice gesture, and fitting that the idea came from the Newcastle captain, and Coloccini had a good game yesterday at the back for Newcastle.

On Simpson’s injury Alan Pardew wasn’t sure how bad the hamstring was:

“We’re not sure if it’s a full tear or just a strain.”

With Ryan Taylor and Danny Simpson injured in successive games, Newcastle will be wondering why they didn’t bring in any reinforcements for the defense over the summer, and the squad already seems stretched by injury.

The fact is that Newcastle didn’t take the opportunity to sufficiently strengthen their squad over the summer, and that’s disappointing.

Hope both recover as quick as possible but due to the short sightedness of the owner / board by not getting at least another defender in the window we are caught short yet again.
A statement of where the money is or has gone would be nice

Food for thought regarding the squad. I guess we knew that injuries could be an issue for us, but these two plus Cheick have come far sooner into the season that anyone would have hoped for.
I guess that the gamble that we would be okay until January is looking foolish strategy now, although the good news is that Raylors injury may be better than first thought.
Just wondering if our lackluster start to the season is reflective of some degree of disappointment evident in the squad ?
Great touch from Colo too, first class.

Good news on Raylor. One thing, does any of you guys regularly know/read the editor (Ed Harrison)'s blog? Cos I have been reading many of his articles, and he's waaaaayyyyyyyy too optimistic on all the things. I don't like how he reports as many of his comments are way too acceptive, even some things he claim is too much homerism for me...

As an example, he had this article
Don’t Forget Newcastle Have Top Youngsters Coming Through

    One of the paragraphs reads:
And we haven’t seen much at all this season of Mehdi Abeid, and we expect him, along with other youngsters like Harris Vuckic, Shane Ferguson, James Tavernier, Curtis Good, Gael Bigirimnana and Sammy Ameobi to come through this season.

I mean, are you serious? Top Youngsters? Based on what are we allowed to say that? They haven't even proven themselves in the league how could we just declare them top youngsters? Tav for instance is definitely not ready yet seeing his performance against the Greek team, Good we haven't even seen him in action. Sammy is still a bit raw, Bigi looked decent-good yesterday, as for Haris and Shane they played too few to judge...... Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the effort and his work, but I think he should be reporting with more objectivity

I think he lives in the states and it is funny when he uses the phrase 'we'.. to describe his views.
