This is probably going to create quite a debate, but I am just calling it as I see - and I have been to all three of our games so far and have closely watched Park. For me I am not sure where his best position is - he doesnt have enough pace to play on the right or left and we have better CM players in Faurlin and Granero. He does work hard no doubt and can pick a good pass out, but tbh doesnt offer much else so far. I am prepared to be patient but to me it seems his legs have gone but his brain clearly hasnt. Yesterday at City for example, several times he had the option to run down the wing and get a cross in, but time and time again kept cutting inside where he was quickly closed down. One time he did go down the wing and Fabio played the ball on for him to chase. And he was quickly beaten to the ball. As I say, he is clearly intelligent, but does he still have the body to be able to do it to a sufficient standard. Again, I am willing to be patient and let him settle in, but this is just a few observations from the first three games.
I'm with you on this one Judo. Hopefully he'll adjust and improve in time as well as the other new faces. I think it was a mistake to make a new player captain too. He is not vocal enough if at all and hasn't led by example as yet. In the games i've seen him play in he looks industrious but has lacked a cutting edge. Can only improve in my opinion.
Totally agree re the captaincy nines. He just doesnt talk enough. Someone like Nelsen would be ideal, but will he play all the time - imo if he is up to playing consistently he should be captain. But MH wont change the captain as it would come across as a sign of 'weakness' I guess.
So is this potentially another Taarabt/Derry example where one is the "official" captain and the other is the "leader" on the pitch?
Been thinking about this myself lads, he doesn't get in the team I'd pick. But does he HAVE to play is the question?
Granero would of been the best option all things considered. He will always play when fit, speaks good english and he looks the part.
I'll tell you he's been looking the captain..................Bobby Z, been really impressed with him.
Yeah , gonna be good to have someone who can take them at last. Been doing my head in the amount we waste.
We have a good squad but I think one problem we have is we don't have like for like replacements in each position. We don't have two left wingers, two right wingers, two CDMs, two target men etc. so it'll be difficult for MH to find one formation that suits everybody. I fear there will always be players like Park either played out of position or under-utilised.
I actually think Park has done well for us so far, particularly against City I thought he had a really good game. To those commenting on his lack of pace I make two points: Firstly, as far as I was concerned pace was never part of the deal when we signed him? For me his main attributes were the experience he brought and the skill, both of which he has shown plenty of. In addition to that I have been very pleasantly surprised by his sheer determination and work rate - I actually consider him very Mackie-like in that respect which for me is a big compliment! Secondly, in terms of pace, he's not actually that slow, he's just not the quickest sprinter in the team! Again I'd put him in the same bracket speed-wise as Mackie. I thought he worked the flanks well against City although swapping him for Hoilett late on might have been a good switch, but that's an argument for another day. All in all I'm very pleased with Park at the moment, although I agree he isn't perhaps the best choice for captain given that he isn't very vocal.
Its insane to judge him on 3 games played pout of position, all the more insane is he was moved to accommodate SWP! Play Park on the right and Hoilett/Taarabt on the left. Hes also more of a RM than a RW too in the same way Beckham was.
i cant totally understand why you guys talk about CAPTAIN. captain is already occupied, and it will be never never never changed unless he punches TF. Just loud guy is not captain, guys. captain should be reliable and deserve to be admired with deligent play on the pitch and out. he has all of them. i ask you guy this. he was captain in uropa league in Man Chester Unites. if he didnt deserve to take an armband, WTF Fergie has thought about? Did he give an armband who is undesirable? Plz dont tell me that he gave it only for Marketing. he was in ManU for 7YEARS.
IMO some think even though he is a winger, he goes to inside too much. Yes, thats right. However, there is two types as a winger. first is like Mackie. very typical winger. go to sideline with great physical and try to cross. Second is like Park. he doesnt play like Mackie. he uses Full back. he goes to inside and makes open space on sideline and pass to Fullback to cross or 1-2pass with him its like two wingers system. that's why Evra had so much chances to cross. thats how he has been doing in ManU and will do in QPR. BTW, Park is top third chance maker so far. First. Baines Second, Cazola Thrid, Ji Sung Park Fourth, David Silva.
I agree with everything Judo, Nines and Bob have written. Park seems industrious but no more, frankly he loodks out of his depth to me. He'd probably do well in the Championship, which is the big danger if MH doesn't realise that Park and Anton don't have enough quality to be starting every game!
Agree , try him in his correct position first, I'm not sure we don't have better options now though, so it could be.................................. please log in to view this image
A man utd regular for 7 years, winner of the champions league and people say he's not good enough for our team lol. Comments and views along these lines are why there is so much unrest on these boards. I'm not saying any of you are out of order for making the comments, it just emphasises the almost mass hysteria and massive over inflation of our current position. Last year we signed rob hulse, now pause and think about that for a minute. Now look at our players for that position, mackie, heart of a lion, but not quiet the skills or experience to match. SWP, had a terrible season last year and had as much confidence as a fat girl on prom night. Then we have park, fans favourite at man utd for 7 years and winner of countless premiership titles and the choline league. So far he's played out of position in every game and yet to settle in. He should play right mid every game, his link up play and passing make him our best choice, he also scores vital goals. But if we as fans continue to over inflate our chances, jump at the chance to criticise and call for replacements after 3 games, if we don't look at the reality and logic of where the club actually is, then there will be no unity amongst fans and thus the support the team gets will suffer. Let's just forget moaning until january when we will have a better idea how the team is gelling, what players are succeeding and where we need to strengthen or change things. Cause right now all these threads judging Hughes and the players is quiet frankly ridiculous. They deserve the chance to develop as a team before we judge them.
