Hello and welcome to the first edition of Loan Watch for the 2012/2013 season. This is a feature in which I will keep you up to date with the players Brendan Rodgers sent out on loan and inform you on their performances. As you know, the season has only just started so there aren’t too many players away from Anfield on loan at the moment. We currently have four players out on loan with clubs in England & Europe. They are:

    • Andy Carroll: West Ham United.
    • Jay Spearing: Bolton Wanderers.
    • Henoc Mukendi: Northampton Town.
    • Villyan Bijev: IK Start.

    Andy Carroll- West Ham United.

Andy Carroll left Liverpool to join West Ham United on a season-long loan on the 30th of August 2012. The striker was eligible to play for West Ham against Fulham and was given a starting spot in Sam Allardyce’s side . Carroll impressed on his West Ham debut and was heavily involved in West Ham’s first goal. He nodded down a ball into the path of Ricardo Vaz Te who then laid it off to Kevin Nolan who scored the fastest goal in this season’s Premier League. (38 seconds)

He was also heavily involved in a lot of West Ham’s good play as they tore apart Fulham in the first half. They were 3-0 up at half-time (Goals form Winston Reid & Matty Taylor added to Kevin Nolan’s early goal) and that was the scoreline after 90 minutes.

Carroll was taken off in the 68th minute with a suspected hamstring injury. He has pulled out of England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and that will be a concern.

    Appearances: 1.

    Goals: 0.

    Assists: 0.

    -

    Jay Spearing- Bolton Wanderers.

Jay Spearing left Liverpool to join Championship side Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan on the 31st of August 2012. The midfielder was eligible to be included in the squad for Bolton’s league game with Hull City on Saturday.

Spearing was included in the starting line-up and completed the full 90 minutes for Owen Coyle’s side. However, it was a debut to forget as Bolton slipped to a 3-1 away defeat. Bolton had taken the lead but it fell apart for Bolton in the second half. Some very poor defending meant that Hull got three goals and collected the three points.

Not the ideal start for Spearing at his new club but it’s good to see him getting the 90 minutes and the Bolton fans thought that Jay did well in the middle of the park.

    Appearances: 1.

    Goals. 0.

    Assists: 0.

    -

    Henoc Mukendi- Northampton Town.

Henoc Mukendi joined Northampton Town on loan until January 1st 2013 on the 8th of August 2012. The attacking forward has been involved in four of Northampton’s games this season including both of their Capital One Cup campaign. However, all four of his appearances have been off the bench and he has gained 133 minutes of football so far this season.

He hasn’t been able to get on the scoresheet or gain an assist but has been brought on later in games to help put opposition defences under pressure with his strength and presence in the opposition’s penalty box.

    Appearances: 4.

    Goals: 0.

    Assists: 0.

    -

    Villyan Bijev- IK Start.

Villyan Bijev was sent out on loan to IK Start at the start of the season after featuring in the reserve’s pre-season fixtures. This move was done to help Bijev to gain experience but also due to work permit issues which means that he cannot play for the reserve and Under 18’s.

He hasn’t currently got any playing time for IK Start. I would put some of this down to the excellent form of IK Start in the Norwegian second division. They are currently top of the league with 44 points from 20 games and have been in excellent goalscoring form with 51 goals. This gives Bijev a challenge to get into the side but with games still left, he still has a chance to force his way into the side.

    Appearances: 0.

    Goals: 0.

    Assists: 0.

I've just added assists. I don't think any of the four player have assists at the moment so it's zero for assists for Andy, Jay, Henoc & Villyan.

Spearing was one of our best players against Hull, most of us were chanting his name at the end <ok>

That's nice to hear. He's a real player is Jay, not very technically gifted but gives his all and some more every time he is on the pitch. Hope he does well for you lot.

Nice to hear Jay has started well.

I can't see him getting back into the Liverpool team so a permanent move away will probably happen in January or in the summer. I think if Bolton get promoted this season (You haven't had the best of starts but plently of games left) you have a good chance of making the move permanent in the summer if he continues to impress!

I hope Jay does well for himself. He could do well for a lesser club like Manchester United.
