Cant believe the negativity today, everyone before the game was predicting a comfortable win for Man u, but apparently us giving them a game and almost beating one of the best sides in the worlds is unacceptable. Playing both Man U and Man city and coming close to a result is a great achievement but most of you seem happier moaning about how one of the best strikers in the world broke down our defense. Look at what the public is saying and you will realize you are being delusional and as i said in the title PATHETIC... Robbie Savage "Southampton have been a breath of fresh air!" Kwong Tse on Twitter "Man U play the get of jail card again. Did they deserve it? No. Poor Southampton they were excellent for 85 minutes at least. Rob Satchell on Twitter "ROBIN VAN PERSIE!!!!! Beast!! Saints played quality to be fair though #alloverus definitely safe this season." BBC "Southampton. Nigel Adkins' side are now the only top-flight team without a point, but never has last place been less deserved." I remember saying when we got promoted that this place would turn into a savage wasteland if we loose a few games a look whats happened, this is the premier ship we are going to loose we are not as good as man untd i repeat we are not actually as good as Man untd. Take the positives out of the game and try and move on. You judge a start on 10 games, if by then we havent picked up im all for a moan.. but just give it some time... please
People criticising our defence annoy me. Yes Hooiveld, Fox and Fonte weren't great today - but they were playing against the 2nd best team in this division. I don't quite know who they're expecting our defence to be made up of? These people are just clueless - it's a shame they're so vocal with their ill-informed opinions.
It's a weird feeling, I completely agree with you SuperSchneid although it is always disappointing to let a lead slip. Would it have been better to have just lost 4-0 and not even had a shot on goal- possibly less disappointing! Ultimately this performance shows we can do well in this league though.
I'm not one of those who has been blindly positive, nor one who has been spouting doom and gloom, saying we are bound for relegation. I am incredibly proud of how well we played at times and how much effort we put in against both United and City. But at the end of the day, in this league you don't get points for performance (Blackpool proved that a couple seasons ago), and we basically missed out on at the very least 2 points, if not 4 or 6, against City and United. Whilst I think we for 70/80% of both matches did fantastically well, our tactics and naivety let us down. I still think we will be fine this season, and I am still very positive, but at the end of the day, having 0 points, bottom of the table, losing from two very winnable positions and losing a game that we should have won is not something that should be celebrated. We can be happy about some aspects of our game, but we shouldn't be blindly positive acting like a couple of good performances against two very good teams means we are guaranteed top half of the table. We could and probably should have come out of these last three games with 7 points on the board, and when you consider the safety mark is usually about 40 points, that's just under a 5th of the points we would probably need to survive wasted. I believe in our players, I believe in Nigel, I believe in Cortese etc. etc., but we have not been anywhere near good enough in our last 3 games.
I can't understand why people are questioning the wisdom of not bringing in more defenders. Do they think there is a Defenders R Us store where you can buy Gerard Piques off the shelf? There are so many factors that mean that deals don't come off: players not available, clubs not willing to sell, clubs asking too much, players wanting too high wages, etc. etc. The Southampton management have, I am sure spent many many hours since promotion was achieved trying to strengthen our defence. That they have been fairly successful (Clyne, Yoshida) shouldn't be forgotten. Sure, we could have done with another CB and another LB, but it won't be for the want of trying that we didn't get them. The important thing for all of us now it to get behind the squad we DO have, instead of writing them off for not beating two of the best sides in the world.
FULLY AGREE!!!! its a shame to be reading negative comments after todays game. we didnt expect any point and we were unlucky not to win. Very happy with the performance if not the result. People coming on and having a dig at the players (fonte and fox) is pointless. We have this squad atleast till Jan, so get behind it. Fone has been one of our past players over the last 3 years, but some people seem to forget that. And fox may not be the worlds best left back, but his main problem is something that is not his fault. He does not get as much cover from the person playing on the left as clyne does on the right. Overall we will be fine and it is useless moaning about losing to a team that lost the title last year on goal difference and have added the leagues top goal scorer and the germans leagues best player
i think the negative comments are down to a couple of things; A) our fans are desperate to prove our doubters wrong, B) We are desperate to stay in the league, C) us as fans, are very used to winning over te past 3 years.
Adkins was expecting another signing on the last day as well as Ramirez...a defender I would guess. Things don't always work out...people change their mind, sign for other teams etc. We played very well today and we have Yoshida and Ramirez to join up, Mayuka as well (can't really count today) and don't forget Tadanari (that will be like having another new player). Cork will be back soon as well. We all know we needed another good defender at least, but we haven't (unless we find a free agent from somewhere) so lets get on with it.
Totally fed up with the mentality of some saints fans today. Left the itchen with tw@ts behind me slagging adkins off. FFS get a grip people we totally outplayed Manu for long spells of the game today with some seriously classy football. If we won today adkins would be praised but everyone is blaming him for the subs which is nuts... players were knackered changes had to be made. Unfortunately watching on TV doesnt show you that adkins was screaming at the players to press in last 20 mins which unfortunately they didnt. They instead backed off from manu and let them control the midfield. The guys gave it their all today but unfortunatley tiredness too over and manu capitalised on that.Get a grip and get behind the team . Just played two of the beat teams and gave great performances , its a long season but im confident if we play the way we did today we will do very well....Get on the bus and get some positivity in your lives !
I can not believe how much negativity is on this board. If we were totally outclassed and lost then I could understand but that was not the case. We have just played the prem champions away, Wigan who also seem to have carried on some form from last year and man u. We played some amazing footie today. I was so proud. Most people try to shut up shop for 90 and end up loosing anyway. Keep the faith ffs! Ok Adkins made a mistake with the subs today but I could understand what he tried to do. Lambert, puncheon and la la were out on their feet. Didn't work but that's life. Why is fonte getting so much stick when jos has given away 2 pens????? I believe now more than I did at the start of the season. Our team are a credit to the shirt and city. They have given everything today. In Adkins I trust and coyr!!!!
