Hughes promises QPR improvement after defeat to Manchester City The Welsh manager has revealed he is happy with his sideâs display against the Premier League champions, and says they will improve with time as they begin to gel Yaya Toure opened the scoring for Manchester City early on, before a superb Bobby Zamora strike levelled things for the London club after the break. Goals from Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez put the win out of reach for Hughes' QPR, but their display against the Premier League champions has impressed their manager. "Their second goal was a real body blow because we'd worked so hard to get back into the game," Hughes told reporters. "But I was really encouraged by what we produced in the second half. "You could see we were trying to get the ball down and we've got good players. "Once we've had a number of games together and once we've had more experience of playing with each other as a team, there's no doubt we'll get better. "They [Man City] understood they were under a little bit of pressure and there was a little bit of unrest in the stadium. There was a little bit of nervousness about their play and we tried to play on that. "All in all there are a lot of positives. We can look back on that and think we've got something to build on. "We had a number of chances, but unfortunately from our point of view, they fell to the wrong guy in Ryan Nelsen. "On another day, they might have fallen to one of our strikers, but all in all, we're moving in the right direction."
I totally agree with him. Mancini was worried hence the time wasting / play disturbing subs. WE HAD THE CHAMPIONS ON THE ROCKS for large parts of the second half!! I have always maintained that I can tolerate my team losing if they show character and put effort in. I saw that yesterday with plenty of potential for improvement. City may be the champions, they may have skilled players who all seem huge beasts but they better watch out when the come to LR. The rough diamond that is QPR today will be rather more polished by then and will be looking for much more that just giving them a good run!
Spot on, I'm sick to death of the over expectation! We haven't even got our full team together yet. Loads of positives from yesterday. Can't believe others don't see it.
Why does he keep 'promising' us thus stuff? Who's he trying to convince? Us or himself? He 'promised' us we wouldn't be in a relegation situation again. How can he promise that? It drives me mad, just as when a politician advocates ' a step change'. It's all just playing to gallery Stop 'promising' and just get on with it
Really dont get the negative posts...dont see the reasons or the need. Your opinions are of course your own, but it seems to me that a) he was pretty good tactically yesterday and b) he is trying to be positive and drive optimism and improvement in the team. Nothing wrong with either of those so sorry to say I disagree with your depressing and gloomy views. Again, just my opinion.
I agree with you Jammers. Each to their own I guess but I don't understand it at all. As said, opinions.
Totally agree for large chunks of the 2nd half we had the top team in England on the back foot & looking pretty average this is with a team who's hardly seen each other let alone played together & with strong additions to come in for me the future is look bright & the only way is up!
We've been through the whole chopping and changing of Managers before. We were a laughing stock as a result. Its not a perfect world and too early to judge MH and his recent additions to the squad. Im not over-awed by MH but he deserves the time to build this team and get them playing together.
Did MH watch MOTD last night because that's what they said? Woeful first half and ManCity should have been out of sight. Much better second half and if it hadn't had been ManCity we would have taken the points. Remember we were playing the Champions with a team full of top players Much better Rangers
The voice of common sense. I too am not convinced by Hughes but with the group that he has gathered we will be fine.
Why is any opinion that differs from someone else's seen as negative? That's what makes football the game it is, everyone sees it differently, hence the fantastic debates that revolve around it. I think Hughes will get it right, lets face it he's brought in an entire new team and then some, so it's bound to take a while to settle. My only fear is that it takes a bit longer than expected and we end up playing catch up like last season.
I just can't understand some of the negativity towards that man. It must be because of people getting carried away pre-season - as happens every pre-season as far as I can remember - and then having their imaginary World come crashing down around them when we ain't winning the League after three games. Yes we've had a poor start but we will come good, I'm certain of that.
