Who Are Ya? Stephane Mbia (QPR)
Posted by Rob Parker on September 1, 2012 in: QPR, Transfer Talk, Who Are Ya?|Post CommentYour whistle-stop guide to the latest Premier League arrivals

    Name: Stephane Mbia

    Age: 26

    Position: Centre-back/midfielder
    Signed from: Marseille

    Fee: Undisclosed

    Did you know?
Mbia was at the centre of a racism row with ex-Liverpool striker Milan Baros in 2007. Baros pinched his nose and gestured to suggest that Mbia had an offensive odour. The Czech player was banned for three matches for making the gesture but it was not deemed to have had a racial motivation.

    What’s the deal?
Cameroon international Mbia has signed a two-year contract at Loftus Road. The deal went through with minutes to spare before the transfer deadline closed.

He started his career at Rennes before making a £10.4 million move to Marseille in 2009.

    What do they say?

“He is a big, strong guy with a strong mentality. He wants to win and is the type of player I want at the club. We have been talking about getting a centre back and he is in my mind for that role, but he is just as adept in midfield and I wouldn’t have any worries about playing him in either position.”
    Mark Hughes

“It was an easy decision because this is an important move for my career. It has always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League, which I believe is the best league in the world. The ambitions of the club and what the board of directors and the manager want to achieve here excites me greatly.”

Pssst, Stephane, you forgot to mention "The Project" by name. It seems to be part of the new contract that players must mention "The Project" when first interviewed.

Who is he? He's gotta be Chris Samba Mk2.

£10.4m in 2009... mind boggles around figure paid this time. Probably something similar with Barton's wages thrown in as a sweetener.
