He's been shafted by his lack of first team experience. He's 21 and hasn't even got 20 league starts to his name. He wouldn't be dislodging Faye, Chester, and Hobbs when he's back from injury, so even without Bruce coming in we'd be looking at giving a new contract to a 22 year old with maybe 25 starts to his name if he was lucky. If he doesn't get a loan deal this season he's likely to fall behind Bradley in the pecking order for a contract for next season because he's gone away to get starts. Again though, the idea of a month at Pompey was just daft. 3 months or half season should have been the offer or they should have had their bid rejected by the club.
Isnt it sensible to Send a young lad out on loan for maybe 3 months see how he goes, instead of gambling with him in league games when alots at stake and maybe finding out that hes not up to scratch? Or is that too sensible a thing too do?
But everytime Cooper's been given a chance in the Championship he's played well, the shirt Bruce is wearing should have been Cooper's to lose for the start of this season.
The weather seemed to get a bit colder this week. I haven't quite worked out how to blame Steve and Alex for it, but if I do can I be in the hate brigade too?
too right. pretty much said that on another thread. Bruce is no world beater, he's steady at best. Sonny Bradley is the only one benefitting from this.
Sorry you're right. Alex should be in the England squad, and we're going to win the league without losing another game because Steve Bruce is the best manager ever. Or, you could grow up and realise that because not everyone thinks the sun shines out of Alex Bruce's arse doesn't make them any less of a fan, just means they have a different opinion to you.
Dont think Coopers been as impressive as a few make out, Got outmuscled for a few goals towards back end of last season, another season out on loan wont do him no harm.
It appears that doveston has stepped down from his position as **** of the board and been replaced by this new moron.
LC needs to sort himself out and a loan out to pastures fresh will take him away from some of the distractions.Who coaches these dsefence these days?
I know you don't like "The Fighting Irishman", but look at how many goals we've conceded whilst he's been on the pitch this season. Extrapolate that across the course of the season, and what have we got? That's right, the first team EVER to go through a Championship campaign without conceding. Think about it.
The best 3 posts by far on this thread. To add my 2p worth to the debate. Liam Cooper has far more Long Term potential but Alex Bruce has the experience City need now with Hobbs out injured. If Hobbs was fit Bruce jnr would not be here. We lose Faye and McShane next summer regardless. What Liam Cooper needs now is to play games and first team games. Pompey is the wrong club for Liam though. They are a mess and a club to stay well away from. Steve Bruce and Alan Knill should work a deal out for Scunny to take Cooper - Townsend and maybe East all on loans for the season with a One week re-call clause on Cooper just in case. Scunny are shipping goals every game and IF they would play them then City should pay them. It then becomes a win win for all parties. All 3 could travel together and save costs and Scunny would pay the Bridge and Fuel costs. Why are such simple solutions not considered eh ? I know that Danny East is currently at Northampton but its only for a month it seems. You make a valid point. But Liam Cooper needs to be playing week in and week out now. Not bench warming here or being stuck in the reserves. The big clubs do it so why should not City.? Sonny Bradley is doing well @ Aldershot and playing games. Liam Cooper has time on his side, Alex Bruce does not. Liam Cooper actually was one of the better performers in pre-season. City turned down a deadline day deal for Paul McShane. I wonder if that will change in the loan window though.?
