I don't think people are pissed off so much about Dempsey specifically. You can debate the merits of him as a player and how he'd have fit our system all day long. It's the fact we couldn't land our target despite letting 4 players leave in 24 hours.

FSG got their initial strategy spectacularly wrong and doubled cash away on sub standard players. What they did this summer, I.e. Not invest in the squad, is just as big a mistake. Barcelona's forwards are so good, they can play the pretty average Gerard Pique at centre-back and play a midfielder namely Javier Mascherano there too. They beat all around them. Roberto Di Matteo a failed West Brom manager seized control and did what AVB should have, he got the older players on-side, batted down the hatches, and he succeeded.
