We don't need to offer it yet. Even Man U don't offer the new contracts to young players until the January. Our practice s to leave it really late like we did with Dawson. Oh there's another option, because of his size not being a good combination with Chester maybe Bruce wants Cooper to become a permanent left back rather than a centre back.
please, please, please, behave yourself. what a load of absolute bollocks!!!!!! has the rugby finished or something?
sorry for any repeat posts, my bandwidth is getting battered by the cod squad. ricardo if you put bruce before cooper then your either a wum or have very little football knowledge.
It's everybody having duplicate posts, you should see my screen, I think I've got 6 deleted posts on this thread alone. It's because of the excessive demand the site has on transfer deadline day, not sure why it causes duplication but it makes it into a bit of a feedback loop. Yes the moderator is a WUM. It's nothing to do with a lack of knowledge either, it's to do with the ability to seperate short term situations from long term ones. The best interests of this club and Liam Cooper long term are served by him playing 30 or 40 games for a club this season. He's not going to do that with us whilst there's Chester and Faye ahead of him therefore he should go out on loan as we have adequate cover for the substitutes bench in the form of Bruce and McShane. If the question had been should we have signed Bruce I'd have said no, but now we have the best thing is to keep him here sat on the bench and loan Cooper out to play.
Cooper is a far better player than Alex Bruce, and there is no way he should be shipped out to Portsmouth for a month. If we are sticking with 5 at the back Cooper should be the left sided of these until Hobbs gets back, and it's then that he should go out on loan.
In your opinion. Not one shared by Steve Bruce. Or me. But I guess we would all pick a different side, which is what makes us watch football. It's a game we all have opinions on.
The last game(live) I saw Bruce in we drew 0-0 at Charlton and I thought Bruce was decent enough. The last game I saw Cooper in was the 2-0 defeat at home to Coventry. So I'd choose Bruce. Cooper hasn't lived up to his early promise for me. A loan deal a bit closer would be better for him. IMO
All true, but whether Bruce would feel the same if Cooper was his lad is a different question. With us playing 3 centre backs though, I'm not sure getting rid of one is the best idea anyway, for however long. Faye is hardly going to play 46 games this season and Alex Bruce has a rumoured back problem, and atm we only have Cooper and McShane who can play there but don't start. Although I'm a big fan of Macca I'm not sure a full game with him at centre back is the best idea in the world.
IMO Coopers been silly not going out on loan. He's now going to have to compete with Chester,Faye,Bruce,Mcshane and Hobbs (When Fit) for a first team spot. He isn't going to grow into a quality player by playing reserve games. And with pompeys lack of players he'd have been garunteed games I imagine. I like Alex Bruce, He's a solid enough defender at this level, Not in the same league as Chester and Hobbs but I have no Issues with him. That said I thought Cooper and Bradley did very well when they played last season. Cooper should have gone to pompey, Played games and made a name for himself (Which I think he's more than capable of doing)
Not getting involved with who's better than who , their both city players like it or not . Having spoken to coops this week , he isn't refusing to go on loan but just didn't feel Pompey was the right loan with what's going on down there. Knows he needs games and is prepared to go anywhere else to get em . Personally I agree with him it's not The best club at present for a young player to be learning his trade .
Alex Bruce is a far superior player and I can't see Liam ever making it to his standard. Alex Bruce every day for me!
I know you lot think i'm wumming but I am not. Some Sunderland supporters will tell you the truth Steve Bruce is fcking ****. The 'happy clappers' supported him to the end , despite one home win in 11 months. I hope you can get rid of him before he gets you relegated.
Today will be a good test of Alex Bruce, not convinced on his playing career previously but if he does well v Bolton then he can do well against anybody in the league. Cooper might well be a better player and if the manager wanted him to go out on loan then he should have done, played out of his skin, then come back to us and knock Bruce out of the team
Agree with SB, Cooper had to go out on loan. Since his contract is up in the summer I would expect him to be sold in January, SB doesn't seem to be impressed with him!
To be fair to Bruce he has only been at fault for two of the goals in two games so far, what you all moaning about? Cooper has better distribution, he is better in the air as he doesn't back off players, he is younger and has better potential in my eyes. Thing is playing three at the back playing cooper means we have Mcshane for cover for all three positions. So you have one player cover for three positions how does that work? Also can i just ask why would you go to Portsmouth for one month the other end of the country where he isn't guaranteed football, he needs a year long loan where he is guaranteed football.
