    Apparently Denpsey didnt want to go to Liverpool cos the deal was £4m plus Henderson.
    They only wanted the £4m.

    The only teams that can finish above us that didn't last year are Everton and Chelsea, so 7th again at worst and probably Europe again. Liverpool are awful. Fulham, Sunderland and Swansea will be best of rest but still aren't on our level.

    I think Mr. 7th place there is taking a few tips from Alan Pardew's best-selling "How To Kid Yourself".

    Are Senegal going to crash and burn in the ACN this season, like they did last? Are we going to persevere with 4-4-2 because Ba says we do? Is our insistence going to continue that Ben Arfa should learn to track back more? Is Mike Williamson going to become a good footballer? Is James Perch going to somehow keep up this miraculous turnaround? Is the entire back four going to stay injury free, because the only viable substitute has done his cruciate ligaments?

    Last season we cut almost every break conceivable. I think there were two examples where we were unlucky. David Luiz vs Demba Ba and Steven Taylor vs his shoulder, or whatever the hell it was he knack'd. Everything else fell in our favour.

    Somehow Alan Pardew has convinced himself and great waves of the NUFC faithful that almost the exact same sequence of events will happen this year. Only this time we don't need a 4th choice striker when the ACN comes a-callin'. There is genuine conviction from Pards when he talks about the desire to break into the top-4, when the sad reality is that Everton, Swansea and probably QPR have a better chance than we do, now. Surely, surely finishing 5th was a platform???

    <sigh>

    Hurry up and sell, Mike. You got lucky once, but pushing it this season's only going one way.

    Even though I was at the game on Wednesday I taped the game and Gordon Strachen said the same thing about the Europe league being a burden.
    The Prem will be Pardew's first priority.

    Well said. Just that apparently its not Pardew convincing himself, he's unfortunately the figurehead of Ashley and his henchmen. He signed himself up for this kind of thing... Don't forget, after the Carroll transfer last year, Pardew was left to fend for himself in front of the entire media to explain the transfer.

    No need to be so disdainful you twat. Senegal are unlikely to qualify for the ACoN so you can scratch that off. I also don't like 4-4-2, but we're still good enough to win most games when we play it, as proven last year. Whys houldn't Perch continue to be awesome? Mike Williamson was adequate last year, why shouldn't he be so this?
    We've signed Anita, no one knows how ood he's gonna be yet, and he can cover full back aswell.

    We had quite a few things go against us actually (you obviously didn't watch us enough) but we were good enough to win those games anyway so you forget about them. One example of many is the game at the SoS, can't get any more unlucky than missing out on a blatant red and penalty, but we won anyway.

    Seriously, you are a total embarassment to the football club. You give Newcastle fans a bad name. Not 2 months ago we were celebrating our success, praising the board for not being held to ransom on players, praising Pards managerial abilities. Suddenly, one transfer window where we only make one big signing AND KEEP ALL OUR ****ING PLAYERS FFS, and we have people calling for Ashley to leave. Give your head a wobble, we have continued the policy that has taken us so far, you are an absolute discredit to our club.

    Just so long as I understand it - Newcaslte is a club where success is keeping players at the club? The year before we showed better ambition, didn't we? I just cannot fathom why we bothered finishing 5th, it seemed no different to finishing 17th.

    I'm as frustrated as anyone we didn't make signings, but not long ago we were celebrating that we would never end up like Pompey, we were being well run. Everyone has forgotten that. I just don't feel any of your points were particularly valid, this group of players have proven themselves good enough to fight for top 4, they have had an extra year to gel together, we have Cisse, HBA, Saylor, Marveaux for full seasons hopefully, they can be like new signings. The teams around us have strenghtened little, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs don't look much better, only Everton have improved. I'm gutted about the lack of signings, but the team we have now is good enough to give it a real go.
