This may sound like a strange comment, but I don't think we ever really wanted him, our man was Rodriguez but we just didn't manage to get him last winter. It is a bit like West Ham buying proven Championship goalscorers before ditching them, however I think Maynard and Baldock are decent players to let go so cheaply.
Well said FLT... I wish Billy all the very best in joining Dan Harding, Simon Gillett, Dexter Blackstock and his old manager Sean O'Driscoll at Forest. I think that he will score 20 plus goals and will fire them to the play offs...
A player with true grit. I wish him well. Don't see him coming back though. assuming Saints continue onwards and upwards. On the other hand if we were to go down, well then perhaps we might.
I really disagree with the transfer, but in the short time Sharp had with us, he touched the heart of every Saints fan, and his Pompey antics will be fondly rembered! You'll be a great miss Sharpy, good luck!
Good luck to Billy, was always going to struggle to get first team starts with all the new signings coming in, but IMO would have been a great player to bring off the bench when we needed a goal with 15 minutes to go. With all of the ex Saints at Forest will be rooting for them to win promotion this season.
Just put a cheeky bet on Forest to get promoted! Hope he has another great season, really likeable characer, think we should have kept him and hope he has a part to play in our future
well I am well pleased by this !!! so long good luck back at your level Billy! (but thanks for the goals you proved me semi wrong).
Thanks Billy for helping to get us in the Premier League. Sorry you're not going to be enjoying it with us YET. Hope to see you back for next season!!
We brought Billy in to do a job for us and he did. He obviously was not going to feature much in the future and he's too good a player not to play. It was best for him to move on where he could do a good job for another team. A good offer came in for him and Nigel was duty bound to tell him about it and his future chances at Saints. Remember we have to accommodate Tadanari as well now he is fit. I'm still not sure about Rodriguez, but perhaps he will be able to ply in a better position with our new signings. Good luck, Billy.
I am both baffled and sad my Billy Sharp's departure. I felt he held himself extremely well after his personal tragedy and quickly earned the resepct of all Saints fans. When he first joined I thought that he looked unfit and out of shape but after a few games it became apparent that he was a cultured and gifted player - the perfect player to replace David Connolly. The strange thing about him being allowed to leave was that he seemed to be improving which each game. One of Dave Merrington's matras on Radio Solent is how Rickie Lambert has developed as a player. I told always agree with Merrington, but this statement is spot on. However, I felt that Billy Sharp had started on a similar path and with goalscorers being essential for Premiership survival, I am staggered that he has been allowed to leave especilly when players like Steve De Ridder (who struggled in the Championsip, in my opinion) have been allowed to remain. I think we may come to rue letter Billy Sharp go. Good luck to him at Forest.
I can't think of many players who have touched us so deeply and become a part of the club so quickly. I would go so far as to say without Billy there is a strong chance we wouldn't have made it to the Prem and I for one am grateful, would love to see him back, and wish him every success and happiness in the future. He deserves it. I actually had him in my fantasy football squad, such was my confidence he would do well in the Prem.
Thank you Billy As far as him leaving instead of De Ridder or Guly. You have to remember that other teams have to be interested
Am truly gutted to lose billy as a player and a person around the club. I'm his short time, he showed us more and more what he is about..... After a tough , tough year (and if you read any of the articles about his son, you'll understand but a fraction of how tough it's been) involving 2 relocations and a promotion party.... I think we will miss his contribution. The self styled fat lad from Sheffield has worked exceptionally hard on his game and fitness and has never moaned once about playing second or even third fiddle to IMO lesser players, whilst getting on and grafting. It's such a shame that sometimes the price of success means treading on the fingers of those who got you there... All this days after a certain Brazilian was stupid enough to drink and drive. I sincerely hope we haven't seen the last of sharp in a saints shirt, but fear that we have. Good luck billy....
Well he probably won't be back as there is a view to a permanent move at the end of the loan. Good signing for Forest and I'm tipping them for promotion. Good luck Billy.
Really sorry to see Billy Sharp leave us - heard it on the radio when driving home from the airport last night and my son was upset as Billy was his fav player. Only here for a such a short time but did very well helping us achieve promotion and a true Saint. Best of luck for the future at Notts Forest Billy Sharp, Sharp, Sharp !
