Hello! Errr, I dunno, I wouldn't risk it. There was a Popeye episode called "You're a sap, Mr Jap" and that was very racist.

Just looked it up. Apparently US media started saying it during WWII simply because it's monosyllabic and you can make a lot of snappy puns with it. After the war was over, Japanese-American people decided they thought the term was derogatory and they wanted people to stop using it. I suppose the same goes for over here. However, in places like South Korea and Singapore, the term is commonly used and is not considered an ethnic slur.
Yeah, but Koreans don't particularly like the Japanese anyway. It's a bit like us and the French times 10.
Tadanari was subjcted to racial abuse when he played for Korea (u21s? not sure) so switched to Japan.
Might have something to do with the fact they were fighting on one front, whereas we had a little problem called Germany to deal with.
And there were holes you could drive a landing force through (literally) in our plan for defending Singapore (our equivalent of Pearl Harbour). In fact the Japanese came very close to invading Australia. The battle of the Kokoda Trail saved them. Written about in a very good book called 'Green Armour'.
