As some of you are probably aware, there is an issue on the Southampton board that has raised the temperature some-what. Because their board is so busy, they have a policy, supported by the majority of their members, that only football related threads are allowed during the season. This has caused quite a kerfuffle from those on there who want to post other things [quizzes, non football topics, current affairs etc], especially as they've become used to being able to do so during the closed season. The ideal solution would be for them to have a 'sub-forum', but this has not been possible for admin to implement. Where am I going with this? I wondered when you'd ask We, meowth, P_F_L and I have agreed that it might be the neighbourly thing to do to help them out. We propose that we invite Saints posters to post their quizzes, current affairs and basically non-football threads on our board, for a trial period, with a sticky on their board where they can give a link to it. There are bound to be one or two concerns amongst you and we need you to let us know your opinions on the matter. This is our (Pompey fans') board and it is up to every-one here, not the mods, as to the content we allow. This offer to the saints membership is subject to your approval and the outcome of this thread will decide whether or not the offer is actually open. If you are happy with this - PLEASE POST TO SAY SO If you have concerns about it - PLEASE VOICE THEM, SO WE CAN ADDRESS THEM If you are dead against the idea - PLEASE POST TO SAY SO THIS IS A DEMOCRATIC FORUM - WHAT THE MAJORITY SAYS - GOES Regards, Devo, Meowth, P_F_L
I dont mind so long as they use the thread for what its meant for and not a place to have a go at us and Pompey.
I'm happy for it. As MAJR says, as long as people don't use it to have a go at us, but tbh I think the people who I imagine would use the threads wouldn't be those likely to.
Have to admit to being in 2 minds about this. 1. Isn't the basic problem that there is only a certain section of the Saints fans who want to use the forum for off-topic threads? (Some of) those particular individuals also demand the right to free speech............. but have indicated no understanding of the responsibility that comes with it. Some of the things said in the couple of threads that I waded through the other night were personal attacks, hurtful to individuals and verging on aggressive, mainly excused by the fact that the culpable individuals are "young". No excuse, plus they are as boring as hell. 2. It has probably become obvious that I have a low tolerance for bad manners and I don't care whether you're 5, 15 or 95 - bad manners are bad manners. I personally don't mind who comes a-visiting but be prepared to get a smack around the ear if you're rude.
The three of you all seem to be in a similar mind to me as to the potential for trolls. Rest assured, if this does go ahead courtesy will be expected and troll/WUM/Trouble posts/threads would be removed and the posters reported to the Saints mods. Multi offenders would soon find themselves banned from our board. We would be relying on a 'common-sense' approach from our visitors and would not stand idly by if the facility was abused. I hope this puts your mind at rest.
Never fear 3rd eye, as it would be on the Pompey board, so dev, meowth and I will have full mod powers over everyone's posts on the threads. This would allow us to delete anything, if need be, right away. And dev, as I said by PM, it sounds like a good idea, to at least trial!
We have enough dirty SCUMMERS VISITING OUR BOARD AS IT IS, I SAY A FIRM NO TO INVITING THE PONY FIDDLERS ON OUR NICE POLITICALLY CORRECT BOARD
I mentioned ponies just the once, I like your style Meowth, 'neigh' indeed! With 5 in favour so far , I may need to get a bigger fishing rod and landing net!
I've been over to have a look, they now have a sticky thread where they can talk about anything they like, bar the usual no-no's and it seems to be going very well so far.
I haven't posted on here recently for exactly the reason of this thread. Have you all forgotten you are Pompey supporters? I am with SB3. Maybe I am on the wrong forum as I don't like the idea of bowing and scraping to the deck chairs
We are nice people really. And I haven't seen many red-with-a-white-and-grey-pinstripe deckchairs recently anyway. Anyway dev, I think everyone has calmed down and we are all happy now. It would be good if we could get cross boards threads again for all our quizzes, but alas. SB3 - maybe you might be interested in these - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19418121, you get all the biggest fish and don't have to waste your time with the tiddlers.
I ‘am with SB3 on this one. Why can’t they share the Barnsley board they already share their shirts.
Don't beat about the bush SB3 - just come out with what you really think As far as the point of this thread is concerned, how would Saints fans react if the situation was reversed ? Would they readily welcome us en masse on their board ? I doubt it very much. However, as long as they leave "us" alone, it's o.k. with me.
Of course not. There's far more hatred from Saints fans towards Portsmouth fans on this website than vice versa.
It seems to have become a moot point anyway Lapras - the protagonists appear to be quite happy with their off-topic thread - and to be honest they are the ones who I wouldn't like to see on this board anyway. I don't know about hating Pompey fans, they seem to hate each other just as much.
