Best news in the transfer window Sess signs new contract, to top a great window Dempsey to the lads. With him in midfield I believe that Colback and Gardner could become very accomplished full backs both are good in the tackle, on the ball and have great vision, good times lie ahead for Sunderland this season. This is Martin O Neill putting is stamp on the club and i must say that i feel pretty confident we will do well this season......................in Martin O Neill i trust
In fairness to both Colback and Gardner both played well at rb/lb against morecambe, and I recall Colback playing lb against David Silva and Silva not having a look in I think both players can do a job for us there, however I did notice Gardner tired towards the end of the game and then in the very late stages so did Colback, therefore think fitness would have to be worked on if they were to take the positions
No. Neither gardener or Colback are full backs but can do a job to fill in. We need a new left back and to get Bardsley back ASAP.
I respect your opinion, however, think you are wrong, both Colback and Gardiner can do a job and i think both are in Martin O Neills plans as full backs, ive championed young Coback since his academy days and rated him as the best young prospect we have produced, head and shoulders above Henderson. If the Dempsey deal comes off i do believe their only chance of football will be as regular full backs and O Neill thinks similarily, or we will be off loading more players than we are expecting
I would like to see an established, experienced left-back come in. By all means let Colback learn the position. x
As confident as I am with Colback there, we have shouted for a left back for years. We surely still need to get somebody so we can have at least 1 proper recognised left back at the club?
Why waste money when we have the answer from within, Colback is naturally left footed has great composure on the ball, good in the tackle and has great vision and distribution result for me but hey thats just my opinion and either way wouldnt want to see young Jack become a squad player rather than a regular he a great prospect and would soon become bored if he didnt play regular
Im assuming thats tongue in cheek, theres a difference between an attacking player to a defensive midfielder like Colback.
Personally mate, I'd like to see Colback in midfield, although he has been outstanding at LB at times when played there. Many LWB's can't defend nowadays anyway!
Although I firmly believe that Colback could do a great job at full-back, it is my opinion that he is even better in the midfield, and is far too good a footballer to be used as a utlility player..
If Colback did assume LB duties, who would we have for cover? MON knows we need a new, proven player for that position, so the only reason we won't get one is if there's no-one of the right calibre available. Should this prove to be the case, then perhaps Colback will be forced into that position. I think he's better in midfield though and can only improve there.

We shouldn't stifle Colbacks development, he could be a really fine cm and he needs to develop the attacking part of his game and start getting up in the final third. Both fine cover but we really should be signing a specialist left back

Agree with you all Colback is a cracking CM player, my assumption is that should Dempsey come we will struggle to accommodate our abundance of CM players and Colback won't accept being a utility player but would accept playing game in game out. As long as he wasn't in goal and LB is his next best position
