This article underlines what I posted early in the summer about hundreds of players being available on frees as clubs rightly tighten their belts: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19405554 They have gone for "famous names" in their list of examples and it is far from typical of the sort of players available. Most of these don't have clubs because their fitness is suspect and/or they want too much money considering their advanced age. The only one who looks a safe bet is Reo-Coker and I wonder if even he has issues as he changes clubs so often. Most players on frees are not in that category and are youngish players who have simply failed to establish themselves at whatever level, that is to say, failed to realise their "perceived" early promise. No real reflection on their abilities as many are called but few are chosen for the matchday squads. Step down a couple of tiers and take a big pay cut and they would do fine. The other point is that free agents can be signed any time, so clubs will naturally concentrate their attention on contracted players while the window is open, knowing they can turn to free agents any time later to fill gaps in their squad. Let's hope Carlisle finds a club. We don't want him unleashed into the world of media if he writes gibberish like "so you stay a bit intrinsic at times".
what happened to owen hargreaves eh (aside from injury). that world cup he played in with england... he was our best player. if he could play half as good again he'd fit into any championship team
