Based on last nights team selection, it's doubtful any of them would play anyway!

so would i, but it would put us at an immediate disadvantage, so why take the risk? better to know you have them all fit and available. we got through regardless in a competition which will rank way down on the list of priorities and we have a fresh line up for saturday. not too sure what the problem is really...

No, I don't blame them for leaving our mess of a club.

I do apportion some blame to the whispering ****-stirrers known as Adam Drury and Snodgrass' agent though.

I kind of agree but don't believe CH could have gained much out of what is his best line up. We hopefully escaped without serious injury, assuming Lappin and Morison were taken off for niggles. Thats good. And despite my reticence to accept the need, our potential 1st team have had a weeek off.
On the other hand, I've always believed winning, and winning well with style, is what makes NCFC a team that can mix it at the highest level. Maybe a miserable performance won't help the confidence of reserves who have to step up.

I had a little think about this, and unfortunately for Drury in that scenario, there's nothing bad he could say about Norwich.

Imagine Howson coming up to Drury and saying "Norwich are interested in me, what's it like there?"

What could Drury say other than "It's a lovely club with great fans"? Perhaps he could add "The roads aren't particularly good though"?!

He could have jokingly gone 'aaahhh, I know what you're trying to get me to do there'.

    Or said 'no comment'.

Or asked Snoddy to stay at Leeds.

Not do a sales pitch which helped result in our best player, our best chance of creating goals this season, leaving.

what he may have learnt is that some of those players don't work well together or that some do, or some don't deserve to be here long term. i believe that last bit too redruth but football has changed now - its all about keeping players as fresh as a daisy, bless their cotton socks... these things are thought about long and hard beforehand

<laugh> he'd be quite likely to injure all three of them in one challenge I think

I really don't think it happened the way you think it did

you do realise that snodgrass wanted to leave LAST summer too right? he said he wanted the move to norwich to happen earlier. unless i'm very much mistaken, this move has been in the offing for a very long time and adam drury will have little to no impact on his decision

Drury is hardly likely to criticise the club he spent the bulk of his career with, stuck with him through some serious injuries, who had just given him a testimonial and allowed him to move on a free to keep his career going and where he had a brilliant relationship with the fans. Plus if Snodgrass was going to speak with anyone you would have thought Howson/Johnson may have been a bit higher on his list to call given that they had experienced both clubs and so would have perspective.

Sorry Superman but the only thing learnt from last night was that the second string can't play football!
I don't hold with this keeping players fresh, you hear all the time from the players that they want to play every game, and they could have easily used that game as a training session and still won! No disrespect intended to Scunthorpe, but we should have walked that!
I don't know about Lapin having a niggle, but Morison couldn't have picked anything up, he didn't do **** all all night. I'm not trying to start the whole Morison thing off again, just saying it as it is, he needs to wake up and do it very very quickly!

Pretty much suums up the report in the 'Evening News' - I would have thought both our strikers would have 'bust a gut' to impress, though from comments on here etc, they couldn't be a****. Hope CMat least goes out on loan/sold.

you might not believe in keeping players fresh, and neither do i if i'm being honest, but that is what is happening and EVERY team does it nowadays, so my point is we have to get used to it because managers aren't suddenly going to pick a full strength team in these matches, especially when we have bigger priorities like staying up. easy with hindsight, but had s****horpe been going in full blooded for every challenge and we ended up with two or three injuries to key players, hughton would have been lambasted by the media and fans alike. its a risk-free strategy because hughton probably didn't really care if we got through or not. and it may mean these games aren't much fun to watch but we did still win the game, and that's all that matters in the cup games. if we draw bradford or crawley or someone like that at carrow road, i suggest you don't go cos you'll only get disappointed by the team selection and probably the performance too, but it will give us a chance to try new things and hopefully progress again without risking our best players. and for what its worth, i thought both morison and martin completely wasted a very good opportunity to impress the new manager. they only have themselves to blame if they don't get picked for the more important games or even end up being sold.

I never said it was entirely down to him, nor that if he hadn't spoken to Snoddy it wouldn't still have happened, but I still maintain that it helped, otherwise why would he have mentioned it?

"Adam Drury sold the club to us really well"

it really would have made little difference! he wanted to come here ages ago, he'd already made his mind up that norwich was his desired destination. so drury had a word to help re-assure him... so what? if you're of the opinion players don't or shouldn't chat about these things then that's very naive.
