QPR and West Brom keen on Argentina star – report

    29/08/2012
    by Matt Barrett
QPR and West Brom are on the trail of Argentina star Cristian Ansaldi, according to The Sun.

The Rubin Kazan full-back, 25, is said to have been attracting attention from a host of top clubs, including Chelsea.

A number of today’s papers pick up on comments made by Joey Barton’s agent Willie McKay, who believes the QPR midfielder may join Marseille with Stephane Mbia moving in the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are considering making a final improved offer for Bayer Leverkusen’s Germany international André Schürrle, according to The Guardian.

The Bundesliga outfit are reported to have turned down a £16m offer for the 21-year-old forward.

The Sun say Chelsea’s Michael Essien is being lined up for a £10m move to Fenerbahce.

The Daily Mail say the Turkish club are preparing an £8m bid for Essien and have also enquired about Blues midfielder Raul Meireles.

And Fulham have again been linked with a move for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.

The Daily Mirror say the Whites, Aston Villa and Sunderland are all keen on the England international.

Cristian Daniel Ansaldi (born 20 September 1986) is an Argentine footballer who plays for Russian Premier League club Rubin Kazan. Ansaldi is two footed and can play at either left or right full back and also as a wingback. He is noted for his tough tackling and bursting runs down the flank. He is also infamous in Argentina for being the only professional footballer to have represented his country in the "Adult Games" (he did so in 2004), where he competed in the "Most Pieces of Lego Shoved up the Bum" category. Cristian fitted 4 pieces in, comfortabley, before the 5th caused him some discomfort and he pulled himself out of the event. He finished 7th out of 12th, with Columbia's Julio Esteban winning the competition with a mighty 17 pieces of lego up his bum without so much as whincing. To this day, Cristian claims he has only ever relieved 3 pieces of lego from his bum, with a blue square and a red rectangular piece still unaccounted for - many believe this is the reasoning behind his unorthodox running style.

[edit] Club careerBorn in Rosario, Ansaldi started his professional career in 2005 and quickly progressed to become a regular player in the Newell's Old Boys first team. In January 2008, he was sold to Rubin Kazan for €3.6 million, with whom he won the Russian Premier League 2008 and 2009. He has made well over 50 appearances for the Europa League hopefuls.

The Argentinian international impressed during Rubin's Champions League campaign, where he directly faced compatriot Lionel Messi.

I wouldn't reject a full back. I don't like Fabio. He hasn't convinced me yet.
