I personally think there's little chance he'll be sold. Arsenal already have Arteta and Carzola, plus a few others that can pass very well. I think they could use him, but would they be willing to pay 20m for him? Would we really sell one of our best players to one of our rivals in the league? Even for a big fee? Would we really just try and help the other teams finish above us like this? But if it does happen, Pardew better have a replacement lined up. We have Anita, Bigi, Perch and others that can play in a defensive midfield position. They can't replace the strength and power he brings, which would be a big miss if he leaves. But we don't have anyone to fill Cabaye's shoes if he leaves. We have creative sparks, but none can really play as a full on center mid. I know we could play our 4-2-1-3 system and have two DM's behind a CAM, but we still wouldn't have anyone that could really produce the same quality as Cabaye does. Who would we sign as a replacement? I know if we receive bids in excess of 20m that the players could be sold, but surely even Ashley knows that selling these players right before deadline day without a replacement is suicide? Pardew will surely talk to Ashley and discuss this with him?
It's going to be a long week. Hopefully Pardew will talk to Ashley and tell him we cant sell our best players. But if Ashley see's a huge profit any player will be sold.
Graham Carr would have a replacement for all positions lined up no doubt. If a significant offer came in for any player, if it is more than they are worth they may well be sold. Interesting read here on soccernomics and our transfer policies: http://www.nufcfans.co.uk/fan-blog-applying-soccernomics-to-newcastle-united-transfer-policy-explained/
If Ashley sells Cabaye at a time where we have no one to replace him, then he's learned nothing, and proves he's the same as he always was, and doesn't give two ****s. Cabaye is a player we cannot let go, unless we have a replacement ready. If we sell him on deadline day, I'll be hacked off.
We won't sell him to Arsenal for sure. They have too many midfielders that the rumours of them wanting Cabaye or Tiote is utter bullshit.
No... If he sells him at a time when we can't replace him it will be because we've received a Carroll-esque bid which might hurt the club in the short term but will benefit us greatly in time. This idea that he doesn't care about a business he has put hundreds of millions of his own money into is beyond stupid.
There was a thing a while ago when Carr said that for every position, they have 5 ranked replacements, each with how much ew'd be willing to pay and what wages we'd give.
We wont receive a bid that high, not for Cabaye. I know we would have thought that for Carroll, but Carroll was looking like a 20+ goals a season striker for us, plus Liverpool are ******ed enough to pay that much. Plus 35m was may more than Carroll was worth. 20m for Cabaye isn't that much more than he's worth in cash, and probably not more than what he's worth as whole to Newcastle United. If we sell Cabaye for 20m, then that's not much more than what we all would probably agree he's worth. He's a massive player for us. He may not always put in fantastic performances, but he does play a big part in our build up play. Plus when we play the 4-3-3 system, where we have seen are best performances, and results, he plays a critical role in it. Plus we're not in the same position as we were when Carroll was sold. All we were trying to do was survive, max achieve a top 10 finish. Now we're in Europe and trying to finish in a strong position, and we need squad depth. Plus you have to think what a player can mean to a dressing room as well, and how much is worth losing a key figure in it. If we do recieve like 30m for him, then I'd understand, but 5-6m more than his worth, isn't a smart move. If he accepts a bid of only 20m, without a replacement, then It doesn't seem like he has learned anything. I aint saying he doesn't care about the business, but the importance of certain players on the pitch and in the dressing room. I know results do have an effect on the profit, and he'll obviously realise that, but I think the way he might see it as 20 million now, someone off the wage bill and "oh it's ok because our scouts have found miracles before, so we'll find one again". We can't take that sort of attitude now, unless the cash is at a certain level. But I aint saying he'll do that, but selling for only 20m on deadline day before one of the biggest and important seasons in the clubs history for a while, would be stupid. Ashley is a smart businessman, but lets hope he maintains his improvement as an owner, and knows that selling our best players for big money isn't always the best thing, unless it's an absolutely immense offer that is worth risking the players absence for. We can't always be about the future, our achievements now are also important. I'm not stupid and It would be ridiculous to think he doesn't give a **** about the business, but what happens on the pitch also matters, and you need to know when it's right to sell. Plus if you're an owner, you need to know about the team and how important certain players are, and the relationship between the players.
What? If we sell Cabaye on deadline day I'll be gutted, but I have confidence that it'll only be if an offer came in of more than he is worth. Not selling when where being offered more than he's worth is akin to selling for less than he's worth. It doesn't make business sense. I'm more than confident that the club will have a replacement lined up, and that the likes of Abeid can step up this season/next. With all that said, I don't think we'll sell anyone else before the end of the window, and I believe we'll bring in at least one more.
I'm sure pardew has been quoted as saying that we won't get caught short with out going transfers again like we did if carroll. Saying something like if a club wants one of our players they have to come in at a time which leaves us ample time ourselves to sign a replacement. The clock is ticking, the closer to deadline it gets the less likely we will sell in my opinion.
I agree. I'm not saying Ashley is automatically going to accept 20m. I personally have more faith in him than that. I expect him to turn down 15m, if he has any brain at all. 20m I expect him to think about, but I think he'd be wise to push for higher. I think he will, because If he senses that a club wants one of our players, he'll keep pushing and pushing. I just don't think 20m is a good bid to accept on deadline day. If we have a replacement then fine, but 20m to part with Cabaye, and to become weaker in depth, and to be without a replacement until Jan, I don't think it's worth it. Maybe 5m+ a player, therefore we can keep not lose the squad depth, and have some quality. 5m+ Ramsey?
With regards to replacing Dreamboat in the event that he does leave then I would personally like us to use two defensive midfielders and play Ben Arfa in the actual number 10 role. Obviously this would create a problem with the two Demba's and I would mainly use this tactic away from home. Worth a go imo.
I was actually thinking about that formation, but remember we can't put our strongest players out every game! We can all dream about our best line ups, but they'll not always be able to come together. We can't play Ben Arfa in Europe and in the premier league, and we'll face tougher side than Atromitos, which means stronger teams need to be put on. I can we what you mean - Ba-----Cisse-----Marv ------Ben Arfa------- ---Jonas----Anita---- Santon-Colo-Saylor--Simpson ----------Krul---------- I like that formation, and I'd not be as bothered about losing Cabaye if we were out of Europe, but that's not the case. We need depth, and we have no one after to Cabaye to produce the same quality. The players that can creat things on a good level after Cabaye, cannot play every game, and we cannot pray for luck with injuries.
Agreed Tash we will just have to sit tight and pray no one leaves. I actually don't think they will but the negativity is slowly buidling up! Sammy Ameobi, Ferguson and Vuckic should all be fully fit sooner than later and they can all play big parts this season.
My only worry is that if we somehow lose Thursday night and are out of European competition, we will lose players Friday. I would like to see a strong team Thursday night and play much the same team on Sunday since we will have the international break the following week to rest. I hate the transfer window.
Rather than listen / read about will we wont we sell before transfer deadline day surely we should be looking at WHO WILL WE BUY to strengthen the squad. I`d hate to think that if we didnt sell any of our ` big ` players that would be seen as a successful window. Come on MA lets get at least another player/s through the door that we know will hit the ground running -- Debuchy . a CH . or front man . Lets see the ambition of the board
17m + VDV would be nice. Without a replacement I think we'd struggle, breaking up the Cab/Cheik Partnership which dominated last season is a risky move. He better not go though, got his name on my shirt
