So on friday the transfer window closes and i believe we are wafer thin as it so what is plan b if we sell on of the top players?

Last yr we lost out to champions league due due to strenght and depth and imo we are just as bad but now we have this mickey mouse eufa cup to play with.

I thought Pardew looked a bit worried/anxious yesterday when asked about any transfers this week, and my first thought was no one lined up to come in but quite possibly someone on the way out.

I will be disappointed (even cross!) if there is no Plan B as the club have known about our commitments for a long time now; but I don't believe the club are not geared up to deal with someone making an exit this week.

But ultimately it is all speculation and we will just run our nerves ragged by assuming Tiote/Cabaye will be gone by the end of the week but with no one to replace them.

Although it doesn't look promising, I wouldn't be surprised if there are one or two things going on in the background that we are yet to hear about and which could mean new faces by the end of the week.

    In Carr we trust :)

We're not "wafer thin". We just really need a centerback and a fullback. A striker would be desireabe too.

    Shola getting injured didn't help.

But I have faith that in some games, we can win without a striker. We have plenty of attacking quality in midfield now. But Shola used as the leader upfront, and the target man, would have been useful.

The Mirror says we've put a final bid in for Debuchy £6m, I thought we'd already bid £6.5m.

We certainly need another couple of signings at least. R.B, C.B and a striker. We didn't even have striker on the bench yesterday.

Definitely a worry for you if Senegal qualify for the ACoN then.

At this moment in time the squad imo opinion is not capable of challenging the top6 with Europa League and cup runs which is Pardew's aim. I would ideally like 3 more players but think at most we'll do one more piece of business.

If we lose someone we just have to hope that we have a replacement lined up. Not sure i agree that we are wafer thin but certainly we need a FB CB and striker to give us that extra bit of real quality to push on from last season and as everyone including Alan Pardew agreed that our squad wasnt strong enough last season then with fewer players now and more games to play we need at least 3 in now. Whether they played last season or not Smith, Kadar, Guthrie, Lovenkrands, Donaldson and Best were all in our squad. Thats 6out with only 4 signed.
Also dont agree with this "like a new signing" rubbish quoted about Marveaux or Saylor. Every squad has injuries every season, some of them worse than others and your squad has to cope. Thats why you have a squad. They were both in last seasons squad and both played so they are not new signings or anything like it.

Any team that stands still goes backwards. Its a lot easier to achieve something once, but to sustain it is a whole other matter. Cliched, but for a reason.

Think our previous offers have been quoted in Euros. Therefore 6.5 million pounds equates to about 8.2 million.

Don't know if this deal is salvageable, but would like to see us try

I hope we dont lose Tiote or Cabaye as in previous posts I have said we need quality players to push on.
I love being in the mickey mouse cup, love having European football back at SJP.
Agree we lack strength and depth but I'm not holding my breath that we will bring anyone in.

Said all summer we'd lose one, that one being Tiote. The signing of Anita seems to have strengthened this, £6.6m is a lot of money to pay for a back-up/rotation player.

It'd be a crying shame to see Tiote go but the replacement has already been signed so I wouldn't be surprised. Still need a striker, different from what we have. A pacey winger striker or a target man, we are slightly one-dimensional when playing both Ba and Cisse. Of course a CB is an absolute must!!

I really hope that Anita was not signed as the replacement for Tiote, simply because Anita does not control the midfield in the way that Tiote can.
Anita is a good addition to the squad, but not IMO a patch on Cheick.
If bringing in Anita is seen as making it possible for Tiote to be sold, then this is complete madness.
We will not maintain what we have, let alone achieve more if this one in, one out mentality pervades.
It is so frustrating and demoralizing to even consider that this is a strategy the Board may employ, if it leaves fans feeling anxious and dissatisfied, then what effect does it have on the team, especially when they seem to have such a brilliant team spirit and ethos at the moment.
I know people will say, that's the way of football today, but we must maintain what we have and continue to strengthen it if we are to be a serious player in the league and more.

I agree completely. Thankfully we haven't done that. We've added depth to our midfield, and Anita brings cover to both full back positions too. It would be a nice bonus to add two or three more (CB, LB or RB and a STR) but it isn't massively crucial. We have an excellent squad for the season ahead and certainly one of the better ones in the league.

Very harsh to judge Anita after just two starts.

While I love Tiote and would be disappointed to see him leave, he is probably one of our most 'replaceable' players. If he is sold, then at least we have a replacement in place already; having been stung too many times in the past by selling players without adequate replacements.

Not to mention the fact that our youth players (Vuckic, Abeid, Ferguson, Tavernier, Sammy etc.) are all a year older and a year better, and will IMO add some good depth to the side.
