I personally hate the fact that the transfer window remains open after the new season has kicked off.
Meaning that players can start the season and actually play for their current club, move on and play against the same club the next week.
Also players involved in protracted saga's, such as Modric, Dempsey etc being unsettled or worse still going AWOL because of speculation and frustration, trying to force through moves that their respective clubs do not want to make.
For me, l would like to see the window shut before the first ball is kicked, or possibly not have a window at all?
    Thoughts?

Happy with Jan window as teams need to strengthen mid season due to injuries etc even tho players often overpriced then.
Summer window should close a week before season starts so everyone knows where they stand and new players have at least a week to settle in. Its ample time from end of May to beginning of August to sign players. Teams manage in Jan with just a month. System as it is now running into start of season is a farce. Managers now speaking out against it now too.

I've often bemoaned the fact that the transfer window remains open after the season has started, for all the points mentioned in the OP, plus it's disruptive, and gives players no time to gel in their new team, especially if they're replacements for deadline transfers.

I personally see no benefits to it, but surely there must be, otherwise why would the FA allow it to continue, is it Finance, is it to do with other deadlines in Europe, do any more informed posters know?

Any reason for closing it before the start of the season would also apply to the January window. Personally I don't care, it's the same for everybody, I'd rather we got all our transfer dealings done early so the players have time to bed in, but I'm pleased it's still open because we need to get players in. If the window had closed a fortnight ago we'd be in a position where we can sell but not buy because the transfer windows wouldn't have closed in Europe. We can't put the start of the season back because we wouldn't have time to get the fixtures in, this is just how it is.

I believe its set by uefa and is hard to fix due to varied league start times around Europe but something should be done IMO

I'm not massively keen on transfer windows but I can't ever see a situation where we don't run into the season. Particularly in years where their are major tournaments and Olympics. The reason is these transfers can take forever to sort out in some cases. Its also a lot easier for some clubs to do business early than it is for others. i.e. big clubs find it relatively easy. The middle and smaller clubs have to run much tighter ships
