Self Moderation, Mania and Discontent

Judging by the various Chelsea related threads this week, us mods have been impressed by the pick-up from many on here to our call for greater self-moderation. Thanks for that, makes our job so much easier.

Just to reitterate the fact that this is YOUR message board and it's up to YOU to keep it interesting for all users. Respect and a bit of humility in our exchanges are key to contentment. However, that doesn't suggest puritanism. We can still enjoy a bit of light hearted banter, irreverance and opposing opinion.

Self-moderation will always be the best way to police the borderlines. Mod actions should remain the last resort.

Mentioned this thread yesterday and took a while to find. Some of the old threads are worth a read, if only to see how wrong we all were.

How does self-moderation work?

Here's an example. I'm in a conversation with Swords/ABITB. We talk about Paul Gascoigne and agree it's a sad waste of talent. Then he posts this.

For Swords this was where "self-moderation" ended. For me it's where it started.

Do I have an opinion about Gascoigne doing this? Yes. Am I going to get into it on a football forum with Swords or anybody else? No.

If you want an example of what the whole Rangers/Celtic thing can do on a football forum then try and get a log in on the F365 forum. To save you time, unless you have a uni/work based email address (for traceabilty purposes), you won't get one. And all because of sectarian based fruitcakery that Swords' response was hoping to provoke. Seriously Swords if you want to interact with pond life go to youtube.

There's an agenda at work here and I don't like it. It's a calculated remark, a subtle dig, on a thread and the whole thing descends into chaos.

Telford loves Chelski, so what do you expect? You made the right decision to stop wasting your energy.

 

Criticism of our manager can hardly be placed on the same level as sectarian shìt stirring but increasingly seems to be seen as such by some posters. That's not ok.

 

Either way it's not on.

 

Since when is it "not on" to criticise our manager? Apart from the inconsequential fact this is a football forum and not some totalitarian regime some of us happen think he's lost the plot.

Not me of course, I've never had any respect for MH as a manager either here at Rangers or in his previous incarnations.

 

Imaz I was actually referring to Telford obsession with hounding of both present and banned members of this form who have no right of reply. Whilst I agree that swords comments are out of line I really don't get what Telfords obsession is with in depth analysis of threads that are months old. Perhaps he wants a mod job?
