Our fanbase is still world class at present, although people tend to go quiet whenever that's mentioned. :)

I presume you are talking about your away support (I agree<ok>). I have no idea about Forest's support, but I can guarantee Ipswich's isn't YTS standard let alone world class.

I'm on about the number of true supporters we have worldwide, which I think is up there with the best, although that's obviously something which impacts our travelling support. I'd say you have more fans in England than Forest and Ipswich, but their successes two decades ago will have spread their name better overseas. You can ignore the trophies of the past if you want to, but that past has influenced the present. Trophies leave a legacy.

I don't ignore them, it just gets tiresome when they get brought up whenever a fan of those clubs is losing an argument (that and six fingers).

    Truly world class attendances...
Av Attendance 2010/2011 Leeds United 23282
    Att Leeds UnitedVs Wolves 23745

Small clubs like Norwich can only dream of breaking the 23000 barrier... oh wait... <somersault>

    One thing: Fanbase.
Another thing: Home attendances while fans are boycotting.

    Yep, they're two different things.

Yeah thats a fair point- I read on and saw ur comment about international fanbase which is probably justified. I must admit I visit Belfast regularly and am always surprised to find that even now by FAR the most popular English teams are Man U, Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea and Leeds.

I also take ur point about fans boycotting recently, but from what I remember ur attendences have been shockingly bad for the whole time u have been out of the Premier League. One man's "boycot" is another man's "glory hunt".

Ah, I see, this is all Norwich City's fault <doh>
Your fans choose to 'boycott' - some of them anyway, and the fact that we have thousands waiting, who can't get a sniff of matchday admission makes it OUR fault.

Sorry, squire, that's lame - and you know it.

A lot of fans have been boycotting/put off ever since Bates arrived back in 2005. Before that, even in the second tier, we were regularly getting between 30,000 and a full house. Very few seats were left in the days before that in the top flight. There is an underlying problem of stay-at-home fans, admittedly, but I think that can easily be changed by a new club outlook if our takeover goes ahead. Even in this division, a club the size of Leeds should be irritated not to be getting 35,000 through the gates. If the Geordies can do it, we certainly bloody can!

I never blamed Norwich for anything, did I? I've always had relatively nice things to say about your club other than once pointing out that you spent significantly more than us on your promotion squad which justified my equating Grayson with Lambert, and making fun of your fans' apparent belief that matchday at Carrow Road is a five year old's fancy dress party. And the goal music too, I think.

All I'm doing here is trying to combat the claim that traditional clubs like Leeds, Ipswich and Forest have nothing left other than memories. The past affects the present.

I can't believe this conversation is happening again!

There is absolutely no doubt that Leeds have a massive fanbase and certainly bigger than ours, but this boycott bullshit gets tiresome. Everybody and their dog knows that if Leeds were in the Premier League - Bates or no Bates - Elland Road would be as full as it could be every other week. Evidence of this can be seen as soon as any of the big boys come to Leeds in the Cup.

I think it's changed last two years.

Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal all came to Elland Road and were greeted by full houses (although I'd contest that many of the people buying tickets were actually Leeds fans; I knew a lot of local non-Leeds fans who went to those games just because a big game was on nearby, so didn't mind paying the prices/propping up Bates).

But then we draw our biggest rivals at home in the League Cup and we're 5,000 short of filling our capacity, effectively only selling around 28,000 Leeds tickets (as many as we sold for Burnley this season?) If that wasn't a boycott, I don't know what was.

If we went up, I suspect a lot of people's views about Bates would be laid to rest, and understandably so. But we all know it's never going to happen, so it's hardly even worthwhile using it as ammunition in a keyboard battle.

    Keyboard battle?

I look forward to seeing you average 28,000 home fans whenever you're at home this season then.<ok>

Figure of speech, you get me?

If Bates goes, I'll expect it to be over 30k on average (depending on new owners' intent). If not, around 22/23k.
