The transfer fees are a side issue. One off payments, easily covered by television revenue and monies received for player sales. Paying big transfer fees has rarely led to the downfall of a club. The big problem, the biggest risk and major reason for the financial issues that clubs are facing now is players wages. We can spend £10m on a player and not have to worry about it as long as the wages are affordable and suitable precautions have been taken to protect us in the event of relegation. The club routinely insert wage reduction in the event of relegation clauses into players contracts anyway, so there's little to worry about there. The other factor to take into account is resaleability. We're not gubbing away big fees and wages onto players that we'd struggle to move on should the need ever arise. Ki will have a resale value. Hernandez will have a resale value. And so on. Compare and contrast that approach to that taken by QPR for example, and you'll see that we have little to worry about.
Players' sitting on high , long term wages can be a disaster when players don't work out . Can't see it happening to much to us though , with Huw monitoring the money & fine print !
Got 27m, spent 15m sounds pretty good to me. Not sure what you're so worried about. A few should get shipped out soon though. Probably busy building the team before deciding who else goes.
I agree with Lone. The transfer fees, including if we get Hernandez AND Ince are all largely covered thanks to Liverpool but the wages may be getting a bit out of hand as we have a huge squad at the minute, especially considering Laudrup wanted to slim the squad down. Expecting a lot of players moving on this week!!!
I'd be surprised if we didn't see 5/6 players moved on before Friday one way or another. Monk looks like he's off, and I'd expect Lita, Orlandi & Bessone to be gone too. Probably even Gower too given the addition of Ki to the squad.
I think Tuesday is going to be used as a bit of a last minute shop window job. Stick them all in after telling anyone who will listen that they are available at any price!!
Someone pointed out the other day that we can still send players out on loan to lower leagues even after the transfer window has shut, so some may not go until September. but I'm surprised that more of the fringe players haven't left yet. Maybe they won't take a cut in wages. But I'm sure we'll see some movement very soon. I'm surprised that Dobbie isn't at Blackpool yet.
It's going to be a busy week up till Friday and whoever is left and not in Laudrops favour will stay in the shop window for lower league loans. I think I read somewhere that the issue with Dobbie is that he is unwilling to take a cut in pay that Blackpool have offered. There is also the chance that he may go to Boro as part of a deal to get Emnes back at the Liberty.
Dobbie's wage demands appear to be unrealistic but if Blackpool won't meet them, I suspect other clubs in the Championship might. As you say, expect some movement out soon.
We need outs, and I would say 7 or 8 of them. As for dobbie he's looking for a wage that reflects what's he on now. I think the swans will be making up his wages if someone doesn't come in for him at the level he wants. Or maybe we pay him off, he won't play for us again that is for sure.
Reports this morning that we have agreed a fee with citey for Sinclair £6.2m and should be concluded by tomorrow. Chelsea due a sell on out of that apparently
