- Stadium looked good

- My seat had been cleaned (only taken 3 seasons)

- Exec boxes were more empty than for an average game in the Championship. Seems like very few companies have bought them for the season (price too high?)

- Why don't Saints sell the seats direct behind the goal first and fill up from the front, not the back to avoid the "ground looks half empty" nonsence

- I'm struggling with the new kit. I know I'm a broken record and nothing I can do about it, but it just doesn't feel like I'm watching a Southampton team. Just feels wrong & think it will nag at me for quite a while.

- Most of the "fringe" players were in one exec box. Hammond was with his new born (congrats Deano). Got me thinking seeing Deano & Chaplow & De Ridder is that I do wonder how they feel seeing Ward-Prowse & Shaw on the bench and not them, the players who helped to get us here. I'm all for youngsters being given a chance, if they've earnt it, but do feel a bit for the older players who may being shoved aside to fulfill Cortese's pledge about 50% academy players etc etc.

- Did we really need two full backs on the bench for a home game?

- Why with 12 minutes to go and Wigan have a corner did we pull every player back to defend?!?

- I wasn't as disappointed with the result as I thought I would be.

Quite a funny statement coming from a Norwich fan. If we go down, you're sure as hell going to be joining us.

People choose their own seats so the club doesn't assign where they sit. Nice the seats have been cleaned...been very grubby. It is a pity that the players who helped get us here aren't being picked, but a few were scarcely good enough for the Championship. I will be astonished if we see either Hammond or de Ridder play in PL games unless there is a major catastrophe. Pretty sure that Adkins would have liked more signings and more players would have left.

to return to the title of the thread these are my very own rambling thoughts after yesterday:

1. We are going to lose more games than we win this season;
2. The team needs steady development not wholesale changes;
3. We are just a couple of players away from being a half decent team;
4. We will see some great play from Saints this season and then on other occasions it will be backs to the wall stuff;
5. Moronic fans will get on the backs of some of the players and criticise Nigel and Nicola;
6. Nigel and Nicola have to learn about the demands of the PL even quicker than the players;
7. People who know sod all about football and have never played the game will get on Guly’s back;
8. Non fans will continue to leave early when we are losing and we should see this as an advantage as those of who stick by the team to the very end will have a less crowded exit of the stadium after the final whistle;
9. Adam, Morgan, James and Nathaniel are going to become great players and revel in this league;
10. Nicola has said we will never be relegated while he is chairman and we should all believe him as he hasn’t lied to us before;
11. We will make mistakes but we will get more right than we get wrong;
12. We are not the Southampton of the past despite the fact that other fans, clubs and the media think we are;
13. We need to remember the words of Corporal Jones in Dads’ Army “Don’t panic”.

I believe the exec boxes are around £45000 for the season and the drinks package etc isn't that great!

Norwich could easily go down this season as could we. Hard lessons need to be learned quickly and the defensive weakness that has been highlighted FOR MONTHS, needs addressing asap.

If we get the right people in we'll be fine.
And yes the stadium looked first class.

One difference from last year is that we are no longer seeking promotion. Last year we had to win a lot of games to make the top two or six. This year we will lose more games and can afford to and still make safety or better. Every game has to be approached as winnable, even ManU and Arsenal (because they don't win every game and have upsets during a season), but this season will be the long haul.

Don't know about that. The Outside looks in need of a good scrub down...

On approaching the stadium yesterday the very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov said exactly that.

She also said that Mr Nasty (Rupert Lowe) always ensured that the stadium exterior was in pristine condition.

We were going to have it cleaned but the price for Ramirez went up. That is what prevented us getting cupholders.

i would like to see the 'loyalty points' taken back off supporters that are not in the ground on 90 minutes.

come to think of it they should also be deducted points if they head for a lager after 32mins.

What about old gits who go the lavatory half way through the first half and again just after the second half has started?

I kind of understand the seats bit because the ones behind the Northam are always the last to go, as they can go to either team (not that anyone was taking them here). But whatever way you try and hide it, there were still 3,000 empty yesterday.

Not sure we needed 3 defenders either as Shaw for Fox does not seem to be a game winning change (particularly because Clyne can go over to LB). However next week when we have a couple of new faces I think we will see more attacking options on the bench. I think it is more difficult to bring a young CM/LB into the squad than a speedy winger/striker. They will all get a run out on Tuesday anyway.

I am not too disappointed either and even though we are 18th, if you rank the league by how well we had started we would be higher. Norwich and QPR have only got a point because they played each other. Villa are dire, and West Ham only have points from playing against them. Other teams have not shown much in the way of ability yet (Stoke, Reading, Liverpool on one game each). Point being, certainly no need to worry.

Do we have any hope of points in our next two games? Yes, a small one.

I might need the Norwich fan's magnifying glass to see that...
