I've resisted the temptation until now to comment on the rumour and speculation that has raged across this transfer window, but now we have gone public on our last 2 signings I feel compelled to add my thanks to the Chairman, manager and staff of SAFC for producing a fantastic result in the transfer market. Fletcher and Johnson are at the very upper end of what I thought was achievable for a club who finished mid table and with the challenges the geography of our region brings in attracting top class talent to the club. Our club is now undeniably in the hands of a very talented leadership team, and an owner who seems determined to take the club to the next level. The cutting edge sponsorship deal we have entered into, with a view to gaining first mover advantage in the huge African market typifies a level of confidence and innovation that those of us who have followed the lads over many decades would never have thought possible. Further investment in the infrastucture of the AOL ensuring it remains among the very best facilities in the EPL, the SOL and the superb close season activities now routinely being staged there, and the obvious class and calibre of those in key positions at the club, including a likely future PM currently sitting as our vice chairman, are all clear illustrations of the new SAFC. What we can bring to the table is the best of old SAFC; the passion, commitment and support that has always in the past compensated for our the clubs short falls elsewhere. These two elements pullng together in the same direction now give us the opportunity to genuinely move our beloved club to the next level. So on the eve of our first home game of the 2012/13 season it is now in our hands to bring the Roker Roar back into play, we stand on the threshold of the best opportunity most of us have ever seen, let's take our chance and stake our claim in the next chapter of the history of our great club. Best wishes to everyone for the new season, and Ha'way The Lads!
LOL, long time no speak Cest, hope all's well with you. I guess we are all pretty much on cloud 9 tonight, genuinely amazed we've pulled this off, absolutely buzzing for the game tomorrow.
I'm great matey. Aye its been a whirlwind day and unrivalled in my time. £22m in one day on 2 totally in their prime players- one from the champions of England. Wild days indeed. How are you?
Very well indeed, and better for today's news. Not had much time to contribute to the forum of late, but I have been dipping in to keep up to speed with the regulars - It's clearly been a bit of a turbulent time on 606 of late! This news can only help everyone's spirits. Think realistically we can crack top 8 this season now, that and another good cup run would make me very happy indeed.
All we need now is a return of the "Roker Roar" best described by the Irish international Danny Blanchflower when he played against Sunderland as " Frightening in its intensity "
Top OP mate Got to agree about top 8. I have said for the last few years the money spent, we should have been a comfortable top ten club by now. Now with a top manager and top players and more to come. Top 8 is in no way unrealistic.
