So we have 7 new players in, for a spend of about £10m in total. If we sell Sinclair for the reputed £5m then bring in Hermandez as his replacement it would take the figure up to £15m. We would have sold Allen for £15m, Sinclair for the £5m and Brendan for £7m bringing the total to £27m , so we have a profit of £12m for the period. Which is great news IMO The questions to ask though, are we going to quick ? Are we spending to much money ? It's not just about the transfer fees but the wages as well. We don't appear to be letting people go, are we being to sentimental with this ? We appear to be in for emnes as well at the moment, do we really need him ? I am getting a little worried that it's running away from us a little. Where is Jenkins thrifty and considered running of the club? We don't appear to be a tightly run club, is this laudrups doing ? I don't want to sound negative but there has got be an alternative look at this.
valley our huw has got his hands firmly gripped on his wallet, dont forget we got 40m this month from the premier league, plus st sales as well so the club are playing a blinder still
I know Mabon, but are we going to knackered if the worst happens ? I don't know it just doesn't feel right when I'm looking at it, maybe it's nerves that we have just spent more on one player than we have ever done previously
We are not used to seeing these large sums being shelled out, remember chris coleman £380.000 to crystal palace, compare that to joe allen £15million, it beggars beleif the figures we are dealing with today, but i fully trust that our huw will not over stretch the club financially , their policy is only to spend what we bring in during the season, but to make that kind of profit £12m on transfers before even taking the premier league money in to account is top drawer management of a football club , i dont think we have any worries to be honest with you, i suspect many clubs are looking at us off the field as well as on the field
We spent some decent money this transfer window, but it's all in proportion from what I can see. I don't think Huw is letting it get out of hand at all (yet, anyway) - we will see some of our players moved on before the window closes, and if not, when the loan window opens. Patience is key in that regard, I think. If you want to see a club buying out of proportion, look at West Ham. £10.75million for Jarvis is ridiculous.
And if the worst does happen i suspect that our huw will have put a large proportion of the money from the premier league safely away for future use. The good thing about swansea is they are one of the few clubs that do not include player valuations in their accounts, dont forget as well if god forbid we did go down there will be sizable transfer fees for those that go
There is another aspect to going to quick, we have brought in more players than I can ever remember this season, are we going to lose the cohesion we've had with the players in the 4 or 5 years ? When we let players go are we going to lose shape ? I'm trying not to be negative as I said, it's just I'm a little worried right now that we will do a hull, they also came up with no debts like us, a small team, they got relegated and are struggling with things. I hope we don't mess up like them.
I don't think we'll ever spend more than 7 million for a player . The only reason were doing it now is we've got money coming out our ears . A lot of teams that drop do so selling the farm for a final gasp at survival ( See Derby ) . that won't be the case with us . As loads of teams prepare to hit the financial wall as rules start to change, were in a position where we have a great team , payed for by shrewd dealing , before we get to our " Golden share " . There isn't anyone in better shape to stay in the Premier , or get back into it because of the timely shrewdness of our success .
Valley - you read my mind and I've been getting more than a little alarmed. But I've had a long hard think about it and the money we've had in still puts us in credit, even allowing for the purchases. My main concern is offloading more than anything else. The business we're doing so far has been frugal by Prem standards - and we have to get used to being with the big boys. Remember Reading had a good first season but didn't strengthen. They were relegated. I suspect the farming out of unwanted players is in hand and those that won't get near the first team have already been told. We've trusted HJ this far and he's not the kind to get pushed around - even by a big name manager. If come Friday we've still got all these players on the books I will be worried because we'll actually have a bigger squad than under Rodgers and be facing enormous wage bills. The management and board know this.
S**t. I have read every post on this thread an thought of a reply to each one. But I am pissed and they are all good.......
Lads take a look at this link its the transfer league table courtesy of our friends at Planet Swans http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premiership-transfers/swansea-city-transfers.html
I think you have a point, but you seem to have forgotten the 'parachute payments'. The whole point being, to hurl us a chunk of cash to pay that sort of thing in a less lucrative league. And as for Huw Jenkins, I can't criticise because of the last ten years, but I am SURE he has hold of the purse strings 'just tight enough'.
Yes the parachute payments help, but I get nervous we are spending millions on players with their wages getting higher and higher. It may look like ambition to spend money on players like this, but the league is full ambition like that, Pompey, Leeds and Hull all had this ambition. Staying in the premier league is obviously important but taking risks is even more important to get right. I hope that huw really does have the control of the financial purse strings here. We shall see I guess
I think we are being quite sensible tbh, its going to be harder this season in the prem so we do need strenthening. Last season we spent £9m on players out of our prem money. This season we are only spending out of the £22m we got from Liverpool and will have a good few mil in change. Therefore we are going to be about £15m better off than last season plus dont forget we really need to give ourselves as much chance as possible to stay up this season as the prem money is going to rise to £60m+
The numbers are in proportion to the money we're receiving. There's no sense in hoarding all the cash coming in and getting relegated. The big plus with Laudrup is the draw of his name - so why not make the most of it? I do think that position-wise we are stocking up on midfielders but that maybe the defence isn't quite so strong. The influx will undoubtedly break up the fluency of our play (and we've seen that in the first half of both the games so far) but how much choice have we had? We lost Allen, Siggy, Caulker and Sinclair. We have gained 7 players. An extra three players isn't outlandish, especially if Monk and Dobbie are on their way out too.
