I would be devastated If they got him, wish we would go for him but can't see him being cheap!

10million rising to 15million it seems. It's all down to personal preference. I'm not up for seeing him come through the SJP doors because he would feel so much above the rest of our players and might negatively affect the team ethic that has served us so well. However, for Sunderland, if they have that kind of money, what a statement to make, they have a good manager, a comfortable European challenging team, this could be a great time for North_east football. As much as I want them to fail :(

Happy with the wingers we have at our club. Good signing for them.

Johnson or Obertan? Johnson or Obertan?

I'd definitely like to see us go for him, he can play a few different roles and has undeniable talent.

The key issue is price. If it were my money (sadly it's not) I'd limit any potential transfer to £12m and £50kpw which I think is a pretty reasonable offer. Not heard any major stories about him being an arsehole so I'd be happy to have him.

That said, he wouldn't be a vital signing and Sunderland would be an excellent place to kickstart his career.

Hes clearly better than Oba, I just don't think hes worth £12mil.

I remember another England winger going for roughly the same price last season. Never kept track of him but I assume he had a great season considering his fee. His name was Stuart something

My dad has also said the same about Johnson vs Obertan.

    It's stupid.

We have enough wingers and attacking mids, we need a center back. It would be a great signing for them, but I don't see why we have to start threads like this. It'll only make it taste sweeter for them.

Johnson would want more than our wage cap, and he's not worth the 12-15 mil that he'll cost.

Center back and fullbacks is what we need, not wingers.

As I said, he'd be a good signing but not vital. I wouldn't want him INSTEAD of a defender.

Personally I think in today's market he probably IS worth £15m but we dont need him badly enough to pay that. The mackems do. <ok>

For 15 mil I'd much rather a cb and a rb. It would buy Douglas and Debuchy with money left over ( I'm not fussed on Douglas but just using him as an example).

British players are over rated and over priced. End of

Agreed but I meant if we had the cash to splash I'd happily take him.

£15m is a lot but he's not as overpriced as the likes of Jarvis and Fletcher. I think handled correctly he should be one of the first names on the England teamsheet, class act in my opinion.

Fletcher or Adam Johnson for the same price? It's a no brainer isn't it.

He is a cracking player. Going to Sunderland makes footballing sence for him. He is garunteed a start. Mackems may think we have our heads up our arses but the fact is he would not get that garuntee here. In a 433 with ba not playing he would be ideal bit if we are switching systems a bit this season then I can't see who we could drop when fit, to play Johnson. Marveaux will come in I contention for us this season and by all account could be a real player for us. Great coup for Sunderland though. By far the best English winger out there.

Agree mate, awesome player but I think he's had enough of squad rotation, wouldn't want yet more of it here.

He's at his best cutting in from the right, and we already have a player by the name of Hatem who is 10x better than AJ. He's a great signing for them lot but whether he can produce when starting a game and not coming on as a sub against the likes of Wigan remains to be seen

Anyone feel kind of bad for McClean? How many opportunities is he going to get now that Johnson is there (or when ever he will be there)

Considering we have HBA, Obertan, Jonas, Marv, Amalfitano, Raylor and Sammy all capable of playing on the wings, 15m is far too much for a player who we don't need. No denying he's a good player, but the money be better spent elsewhere.

HBA is a cracking player but how can you say he's 10xbetter than AJ? That's riddiculous imo like. Also at £10m possibly rising to £15m he is a bargain as he is only 25 with bags of experience and his best years ahead of him....
