Am of the belief that chances tend to be created through playing wide, perhaps two wide men and two up front would afford the chances to be created, it does seem this season and last that we struggled to create a lot of chances by accommodating koren in the set up, don`t get me wrong the guy does produce the odd piece of magic now and again but throughout 90 mins does he create enough ???
koren is at the heart of 99% of our decent attacks, might not always play the final pass..but hes usually the one who turns it into pointless aimless passing, into something half dangerous going forward...we would be utter ****e without him
We won't let go of Koren. He's just signed a new contract and Bruce admitted that he is the best midfielder in the league
Korens a quality player, but he cant do it all by himself, we need creativity from deeper because just twatting it long wont work for us.
The point isn`t about letting Koren go, its how to accomodate the player in a system that allows us to create more chances, lets not get into the sell Koren rhubarb. Koren being involved in 99% of our moves of an attacking nature, doesn`t say a lot if we are only creating three or four opportunities a game. Yes we were rubbish without Koren last year when he was injured because we set up to play the same way but tried to fill the void using other personnel.
Too many people blame the midfield for lacking creativity but it takes 2 things to create a chance 1) a good pass and 2) movement from the strikers. Our strikers (and Stewarts) movement is appalling they stand and expect ball to feet all the time they never pull off defenders (no sexual content intended), spin in behind or just try and create space for themselves it must be a defenders dream. This is not an observatoin from just this season but from the last few.
I agree, Fryatt is the only player who starts worrying defenders with his movement. Proschwitz seems to worry defenders because of his size and can definitely stretch defences with his runs, but we need someone playing off him for this to be effective. Stewart always drops deeper and deeper to pick up the ball and then tries to take the ball 30 yards forward (usually ending up knocking it out of play). Aluko seems a little more intelligent and can get in between the defence and midfield, which is handy, as neither know wether they're the one's that should be picking him up.
Proschwitz still looks isolated up front, which means he has to drop deep to get the ball. When Fryatt is fit I expect Matty to be on the shoulder of the centre back with Proschwitz and Aluko in and around him
Pointless thread about a ridiculous topic. Koren is a great player. The thing is with Koren, his lack of running gives us as fans watching the image that he lacks effort and because he doesn't stay in possession for long, it seems as though he doesn't really do anything. When he's not in the side, you really see the creative void that's left. He's very intelligent on the ball, he's always either sneaking a cheeky little ball inside to the forwards or getting the ball out wide. He's the one who moves the ball around and knows what he's doing. Look at the pass to Dudgeon for example, brilliantly waited ball. He's a great attacking threat IMO and we would be stupid not to play him.
the lack of movement in our attacking players is a definate worry.. whenever a midfielder has the ball, whoever is playing wide for us, whether it be stewart, mclean even aluko is guilty so far....they just stand waiting for the ball to be passed to feet, none of them get going beyond the full back for the ball to be played through... dudgeon did on saturday from left back for the goal, and i almost fell off my chair i was that stunned to see somebody do it..
We were painfully slow when we were attacking last night, as we often are and despite having watched last nights game, I'm still not entirely sure what role each player was supposed to be playing.
Agree OLM, last night it was hard to fathom out what anyone was doing - talk of new systems with two up top is fine but unless they try create some space for themselves then we're gonna end up in a midfield dog-fight which was exactly what happened. We never seemed to get out of 3rd gear for long periods and fella next to me commented that at times it seemed more like an end of season game where no-one has anything to play for rather than second match of the season....
We need a player whos direct, wants to recieve the ball and go at goal Step forward George Boyd as well as Ryan Hall from Southend. Assists Galore with those two. Get em Signed Brucey And Mcfadden on a free while your at it.
