Agger will be suspended against City and Kelly is likely to be dropped in favour of Johnson coming in at right back at the weekend (with Enrique fit again at left back) so it makes sense to play them tonight. Otherwise it's the fringe team. I imagine Coates gets the nod ahead of Carra, as Carra's experience will be needed versus City... Robinson to get a rare chance at left back... Shelvey in the "Gerrard" role... and Henderson/Sterling playing wide of Carroll. I know Henderson is not a true winger and was pretty poor on the right-hand side last year, but can see him getting the nod tonight so Rodgers can take a look at him in the role - believe it or not, his successful cross ratio was exceptional at Sunderland. Any thoughts?
I agree. Carragher instead of Coates, Lucas instead of Spearing. Swap Shelvey and Henderson around. PS - there is a thread for this **** already

Also think playing Lucas tonight would be madness. He's clearly not 100 per cent yet and will be needed at the weekend. Don't want him knackered and us playing Spearing against City instead!
He also needs match time to get his fitness up. I reckon he'll play the first hour but if he doesn't then Allen or Spearing will play, need to have a decent core of first team players in the side though

Might thoughts too. I'd also like to see Kelly given a game or two at CB but with Agger being suspended against Man City (is it just a one game ban?) and Coates needing match time I can understand why that is not the case.

Newcastle back on terms. Lovely R Taylor free kick. Only way they looked like scoring, certainly didn't look like scoring in free play. Greek side looking comfortable on the ball. Newcastle will have to increase their urgency if they want to extent their lead in the 2nd half. Hope we play better in our first half!
