According to SSN we have agreed a fee in the region of 12m for Fletcher According to "the Shropshire star" and Off the Post it is £14m: http://www.shropshirestar.com/sport...o-sell-steven-fletcher-to-sunderland-for-14m/ http://www.offthepost.info/blog/201...campaign=Feed: offthepost/TLAa (Off The Post) Accirding to the "Metro" (The free paper) it's 15m!! http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/footba...s-wolves-accept-15million-for-steven-fletcher Oh and I found this one at 5:30 this morning which says Wolves hav e rejected our offer!!!: (Really need to try harder there!!) http://www.clubcall.com/sunderland/sunderland-offer-rejected-1454247.html I wonder how much it actually is - what's the bets on "undisclosed"!!!
I've noted all the Geordie press claiming it's 15 million, same twats who claimed the Sunderland fans had trashed the sports direct last year. Twats the lot of them, burn the Geordie press
I think it'll go down as undisclosed and that way both clubs save a little face. I have no problem with us paying 12m for him. And would have back a higher offer before deadline day if wolves hadn't budged at 12. 30 goals in 3 seasons for teams that finishes 18th, 17th and 20th. He's worth it
I was of the opinion that £12 mill for Fletcher was too much , till I remembered we paid about £6 mill for Torre Andre Flo. 10 - 15 goals a season strikers can't be had cheaply any more. If he scores 30 to 40 goals over the next two seasons , he'll look cheap.
The fact that people are pointing and laughing at the price here is probably down to the fact that he isn't called Stephane Fletcherino - you only have to cast your minds back a couple of years to see that nobody laughed when you signed Gyan for £13m(?) and he only ended up with about 12 goals himself, but that was justified because he had a bit of skill to his first touch and done a daft dance when he scored. Essentially, where the money is concerned you're replacing him like-for-like with Fletcher although this time round, you know he can score the goals as he's done it for clubs in the division before. Ultimately there's less risk in this one than the Gyan acquisition but because he isn't as much of a character people will judge him before he's had chance to kick a ball. From what I've seen of the guy, he's strong, decent in the air and knows how to finish. His weaknesses are his ability to read the game as it's moving but I'm sure training with the likes of Sessegnon will help him along in that area of his game. Decent buy for me.
Terry - Gyan was one of the best strikers we've ever had at this club. There is no doubt his talent. Yes he moved for reasons we didn't agree with but the lads was quality. Fletcher has only played in a struggling team where not to much was expected because they were pap. I'm excite for Fletcher because his natural finishing ability reminds me of a Robbie Fowler. Good time ahead me thinks.
As Dickens might have said, a not so well known football expert, 15 goals satisfactory equitable, 20 goals excellent very happy, 10 or less goals results in misery
You're starting to grow on me Terry and it's good to have neutral fans opinions on this site A lot better then when you first came on here after the end of season game I actually disagree with this mate, honestly think he was over-rated, very lazy and only worth half of what we paid. This is what makes football great though, difference of opinions
SAFC83 Which we won! haha Seriously though, good football banter on the Sunderland board and not always Sunderland related. I get a bit bored of reading about scouse history on the United threads. I've been around longer than that though, I tend to just comment on anything that interests me or irritates me!
Do you go to the games Terry? Me little brother is a season ticket holder for you boys and is always able to get me a ticket in your end when we play you. We have mates in Salford and usually stop the night. I might even meet up and get you a pint if you can forgive us fans for the *ahem* poznan To make matters worse me brother has just got a job as an accountant at NUFC! Little ****
The fee will be spread over the length of his contract, with interest and add odds it could be 14m but you can be assured that the papers will report the biggest number possible. All we need to know is Short can afford it and its a player MON thinks will vastly improve us. That's good enough for me.
Sorry Redandwhiteoxford, forgot to comment on what you said. Yeah, well everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Gyan's certainly got talent I'll give you that, but he's never done an awful lot with it, seems distracted or less focussed than a genuine top striker for me, his heart doesn't seem to be in it if you know what I mean. 6 clubs in 9 years says it all for me and there's been no steady progression from club to club. You'll see better than him come and go at your club in my opinion.
safc83 That's a really nice offer pal, thanks, but I do go to (near enough) every home game. My company buy 4 ST's a year for corporate hospitality when we have customers in from China and The Middle East, they hardly get used so I use them when I can. Where your brother's concerned, obviously decent career but I don't envy anyone who works for their owner, the guy is ruthless!
