we've had basically nothing to spend this window. makes me question the owners determination to bring success to us. In order to keep up with Chelsea Arsenal Tottenham etc. we have to spend money on good players.

I wasn't comparing their performance you numpty, I was merely saying Suarez is playing a role in a formation similar to the one Messi is playing at Barca, regardless of how well either pull of those roles.

  5. I don't think you can compare them, they are different types of players. Plus, Messi is about four years younger!

Thinking the same thing - they're effectively saying they'd rather pay Carroll £4 million a year, plus NI, insurance etc, than sell him for a few million less than they value him at?! And if he sits on the bench all season, will he be any more valuable come the end of the season??

That formation might work with Suarez as the false 9, but as you said before you need inside forwards. If Suarez plays the Messi role for Liverpool, who is playing the Pedro and Villa roles? Carroll and Downing?! <yikes>

Exactly! worrying thought! We have Borini and Assiaidi in (jury out) and A.Johnson and Dempsey linked too who could do a job too. Downing shouldn't be near the starting XI and Carroll as an inside forward/winger would be a site to behold! lol

get your point to a degree but not really same thing, Carroll is young and was about potential, something your owners could take a risk on letting go as money was too good.

Agger is already a quality player and wouldn't look out of place in any team in the world. we want a top 4 finish at some point its imperative we keep quality players like that here,as once they are gone, at the moment we have no chance of replacing that quality.

Pardew and Ashley have both come out and said that if more silly money comes onto the table for our stars then it cant be ignored. It was bad in the short term to see AC leave but long term we have come out of it a hell of a lot stronger. Let Man City and Chelsea buy whoever they want but make the ****ers pay through the nose for it making us all richer.

He's not bollox, and he is not a first teamer for us anyway, we have a midfield of Gerrard/Allen/Lucas

I didn't say he was a reserve. And yes it was a lot of money, but spending a lot of money on him doesn't suddenly make him ****, if we had got him on a free would he still be ****?

  18. Fair enough, everyone is entitled to an opinion. I think Henderson will become a very player who is good at maintaining possession but he will get limited opportunities with the arrival of Allen. Shelvey's emergence could dampen his progress too but thats a good problem for the club to have.

  20. That amount spent on him is irrelevant. Whats done is done and we move on, we can't change the sum paid <doh>
