The silly money thrown around by Prem Clubs continue to amaze me. Sunderland are actually willing to pay Wolves a whopping £12m for Steven Fletcher. Unbelievable!!! That is a massively inflated fee, especially when you consider no one else was queuing up to sign him. Fletcher hasn't shown himself to be a 20-goals plus a season striker yet he is valued at £12m? Just plain crazy. Mind you, Sunderland did receive a bonus £1m from West Ham for McCartney, who we know is not worth £1. Portsmouth are in trouble thanks to big transfer fees paid and the wages that then go with it. If Sunderland go down and Fletcher fires blanks, they will struggle to sell him for £2m. I just don't understand how clubs can do stupid deals like this, taking gambles that could well contribute to a financial collapse.
This from a Leeds fan who tried to buy there way into the Champions league and still suffering the consequences. If Fletcher gets us over 12 goals plus ill be pleased and although i do agree £12m maybe too much £50m Torres £35m Carrol £20m Henderson £12m does not seem a lot now.
No dissrespect Son, but the last thing I would expect would be a Leeds supporter coming on here trying to preach fiscal policy to us. No one in the history of modern day football made a massive financial F*** Up more than your club under Mr Ridsdale. So much so I believe your club is still paying premiums on deals involving Fowler of all people and a certain Seth Johnson (remember him !). Your comments are noted...but please your in no position to lecture us.
Utter tosh pal, you clearly know nothing about our finances, ellis short is a multi billionaire for a start, our shirt sponsor is worth £20m a year, without addidas, stubhub, bet butler and much much more, grade 1 academy, one of the finest managers in the world, i could go on
I am not dissing Sunderland, just showing how the Prem is over inflating everything. Sky money is distorting the truth, as Pompey and other relegated clubs have discovered. There is no money outside the Prem, and immediate promotion is critical to meet contract obligations to overpaid players. The silly money can't continue forever, and its just immoral considering the austere times we live in. Yes, Leeds ****ed up when Ridsdale LEASED players like cars, and then when the club missed out on Chumps Lge by one point he didn't have the money he gambled on. Leeds fans were never comfortable with the spending, but what can you do? Our fall and recovery has been interesting, but at least we have seen what can happen. Today we are debt free, no contracts being paid off, and profitable, so happy we still have a club. Pompey are ****ed and the only buyer lining up is a crook who is trying to get the club back on the cheap. So, all I'm saying is be careful and don't do silly deals, they could come back to haunt you.
Isnt this why in contracts now, their are clauses stating if the club is relegated there is a 50% pay cut?
It's nice that people can be concerned but I don't think it's necessary. Billionaire owners are billionaires for a reason, they generally make calculated decisions and cover near enough every eventuality. We have seen with Newcastle what happens when a billionaire's club gets relegated, he tightens the purse strings, tells the fans to temporarily shut their traps and gets on with re-stabilising the club. With all due respect, Ridsdale isn't worth a wet fart, nor are most of the owners that end up taking their clubs to the cleaners. If I had to identify a club that may be in trouble due to their erratic investments, QPR.
Leeds? Who are they again? Oh yes that bankrupt lower league club that on one gives a monkeys about. The next premier tv deal will give clubs a £60m revenue even BEFORE any other income is calculated. If Leeds ever do come back up, let's see how much they need to spend to stay there. If they don't they will be straight back down.
I agree the prices are inflated, but if you make a stand and don't keep in the race, the alternative is relegation anyway. x
Ah Leeds fan. Let me explain to you. Next season we will get a minimum of £70,000,000 from Sky. That's because there is a 70% increase. Explian how we will be up s*it creek again.. trololololollolloll Our gates are double pompy. And you just have a chairman that was pap. Jealousy is a wonderful thing...!!!
Every time we tried to do it on the cheap, since I first started to go to games back in 1975, we've been relegated every time. For the last 5 years we have spent money and we are a comfortable midtable side now. It's not rocket science.
Good Point Terry, I look at QPR and wonder when the bloody spending is going to stop ???... By all accounts Tony Fernandes has sanctioned some absolutley crazy wages at that club to ensure the signings take place. Nedum Onuoha on £66 grand a week, DJ Campbell £25 grand a week, sureley the wheel has to come off. Theres not a day going by during this transfer window when they are paying grossly inflated transfer fees and outlandish wages to get these players in.
I hear what you saying Billy, yes I agree we have paid over the odds for Fletcher. However as we got ourselves into the situation of not having a striker we were always going to pay over the odds. However thus far we only have 2 other players in both on a free, we have let a lot of players go from the club reducing the wage bill significantly. Our owner seems to know what he is doing. We are trying to go for quality over quantity. Even poor players in the prem command ridiculous wages. We are culling the poor players from our wage bill. Also you need to remember we made silly money from Bent and Henderson, have sold Gyan, so we should have a bit of cash.
I think Fletcher will surprise a few people this season. 12m is a lot of money but the lad has scored goals in struggling sides. IMO If we can supply him from the wings he will get he will get 15 goals this season. Plus the lad wants to come & play for us he will be hungry to prove all the doubters wrong. If he signs today I will be a happy fella. As for the financial side of things I trust ES & Margret Byrne will keep us right.
It is a scandalous fee for Fletcher, he's way over valued at 12m. That's for Ellis Short to worry about though and I'm sure he can cover it. I have to say hats off to Jez Moxey. 23m in for Fletcher and Jarvis with possibly a further 3m to come in add ons? Even if these reports are slightly inaccurate, the money he has recouped on these two is just plain ridiculous. Its like getting 35m for Andy Carroll.....................
How do you know? All of the reports say fee "Believed to be" - no-one except the clubs and ther PL will know the fee for certain I doubt. Is Papisse Cisse overvalued? Definitely not but you didn't know that when you signed him. You can only tell a players value after he starts playing for his new club so he's certainly not over valued yet
