Liverpool don't want Carroll and Carroll doesn't want Liverpool.

He's made it clear he wants to come back to Newcastle but it seems the dippers are prepared to keep paying his rather large salary to keep him sitting on the bench.

I would think the last people they would want to sell Carroll to is us seeing as we stitched them up like kippers when we sold him. ( Mind you whoever in Liverpool sanctioned the buy must be a right plonker )

I can't stand Brendan Rodgers. He really does seem to beleive his own hype.

Who the hell is he to criticise other clubs' transfer dealings when he blatently tried to hijack Swansea's deal for Sigurdsson and signed Joe Allen from his former employers after agreeing that he would not go after their players. I know that Allen had a buy-out clause but Rodgers signed that agreement in with the full knowlegde that it was useless against his persuit of Allen. People can say that he was looking after Liverpool's best interests, but isn't that what we have done in our "derisory" bid for Carroll.

He is the one who started all the speculation around Andy Carrolll's future (or lack of one) at Liverpool. He made it blatently clear that Carroll is not part of his plans for the team, so obviously clubs will try to get him on the cheap.

I really hope that this fat-headed-twat fails miserably and disappears up his own arsehole!!

Brendan Rodgers has made an awful mess of this situation. He's made his player unhappy and unwanted (a player who plays in a position where they desperately need players) and now he is failing to see they need to cut their losses and pricing him out of the market. He should never have made the player unhappy in the first place now they are resisting selling to us even though it would be sensible to do a deal now so they can get a replacement in who isn't unhappy, just because they don't want to be made fools of. A very poor set of choices from Rodgers and not really in line with the level he needs to be at the take control of a top club.

There's actually a chance we are just winding them up, playing mind games if you will, knowing that Carroll will respond positively to our interest but 'Pool will be reluctant to sell.

I don't mind Rodgers but he has majorly ****ed up trying to offload Carroll. Telling everyone you don't want him 2 mins after starting the job was not a good opening gambit. I just can't see how they can retain him. I see him moving to us on deadline day for 15m or less. Rodgers would be better served to forget this one and learn from his error.

Yeah, it was noted last Christmass that our entire first team and subs for most games cost less than Carroll...

Really? I can't see how. He was sold, it happens in football. It was the boards choice to accept a bid (and understandably so). Even if he had forced the move it would still clearly not have left us in the ****e. It left us in a very strong position to strengthen our squad to what it is now.

Essentially the board wanted the money and he wasn't against the idea of moving to a bigger club on more money. That's football basically.

I thought at the time that it was a great move for both NUFC and Andy Carroll. £35 million was far too good to turn down for a player who is probably worth about £12 million. I would have been pissed off if MA had not accepted it. My only worry was that MA would pocket the cash and not invest in the team, and I have been proved wrong about that.
As for Andy Carroll, not only was he increasing his wages from about £30k per week to £80-90k per week and so setting himself up for life financially, he was also moving to a club that, at the time, looked far more likely to be competing in Europe and winning trophies, and so helping his career.
The fact that the move has been a disaster for Carroll and Liverpool means that both of them are going to have to accept a financial loss if they want to part company. Undoubtedly Liverpool will lose £millions on any transfer fee, and if Carroll wants to return to the Toon he will also have to accept a huge drop in wages.
The nice aspect of all this is whatever the outcome, Newcastle have benefitted hugely from the whole saga.

And I think some of those are a little off - Colo was only £9m I think and loads of the NE reporters said Ben Arfa only cost £2m (although that might have been an initial £2m?)

Exactly. We can't lose and Liverpool are holding no cards. Yes Pardew would like to add him to the squad, as would the board. Lets face it though we are well set and if it doesn't happen we won't lose any sleep. I'd imagine Mr Henry is not keen on having a 35m signing on 80k a week sitting on the bench at Anfield!

It does make me chortle, even though I'm not like many on here in that I don't have any hatred towards Liverpool. One of the things I find funny is that he actually looks back to his best and back on the progression path he was when with us. He could play in a Brendan Rodgers team no problem when he is going well. The decision seems to have been taken before he saw him train/play, possibly based on what he'd seen when with Swansea etc.

I hope he returns and as you suggest it will be on our terms if he does. Fee of less than 15m and wages less than he's on now.

    AGREE!!!

Rodgers has gone from hero to zero overnight, as soon as he pulled on that disgusting tracksuit he turned into a moaning little clown. I don't know what to make of the Andy Carroll transfer back to you guys, they say you shouldn't go back but I'd have Ronaldo back in a heartbeat, although let's not compare the two. I'll hedge a bet that Rodgers has a Kenny Dolegleish-style post-match rant before September is out.
