I was disappointed to see how many people sat down as soon as the game started :/

What happened to when the majority would stand the entire game? Apart from the left hand side (facing the pitch) and the back right hand side corner (which I was in), the rest were sat. I was pleased to be where I was allocated as it meant I could stand.

Let's start a campaign for the majority to stand at away games again. Like Chesireben said, leave your bird at home if she wants to sit down ;)

As for the game. The formation makes us very hard to beat but doesnt offer much going forward, particularly in the wide areas. Early on crosses kept coming in off the right side time and time again because naturally the back three was narrow. It is a good foundation to start the game, theres no denying that but it would have been nice to attack a little more, like during the finals ten minutes. Blackburn really struggled to break us down as the game went on but they were physically alot stronger than us. Once our strikers start scoring and we play like we did this evening elsewhere on the pitch, we are going to be looking at the Top 6 for definite.

A comment I heard from somebody sat near me; "How are they taking all three points playing like this when we beat Brighton who played alot better than Blackburn have." I guess that's football! :)

We played for a draw, we probably deserved a draw. Shame they got the scrappy goal.

Agreed - I found our support very very subdued for an away game. Possibly the quietest I've seen and rather disappointing. I was in the Right Hand Corner too, on the back row - did we meet?

We set up for a draw tonight and probably deserved one, but there were just too many simple passes going astray for my liking. Probably similar to the start of last season - the team needs a few games to gel. We will improve but still think we need another winger and midfielder for a complete squad.

No I don't think we did. I was stood a couple of rows from the back. There was two guys in front of me who were the first of our back corner group to be stood. I was on the edge of the seating, nearest to the home fans. The come on you 'Ull chant kept making me laugh when somebody was very poshly adding "Come on you Hulllll" with full pronunciation coming from our corner, don't know if you heard it?

This is a worse offence than any of the allegations currently being investiugated as part of the Italian FA ruling on illegal betting. Will there be an investigation by the FA and a ban for Brownie? Will there ****.

HaHa - yes I did hear that, made me laugh. As did the various Kean out/Kean in/Kean's a genius chants - even once or twice generating a small cheer from the Blackburn fans next to us.

    Agreed

Although I did think the noise was OK until I realised that we didn't have the whole stand!

its still early days of course, but im struggling to see any real change in style..
still lots of neat passing in the wrong areas, bruce spoke afterwards on 5 live on 2 up front, but half the time aluko was picking the ball up off the back 4, assuming he was the other striker.

Steve Bruce has said he wanted to play this formation when it suited. Last night it suited and worked well. <ok> imo.

Take your tongue out of your cheek.

Oh i think Steve Bruce knows this as much as we do. Its the only thing that he actually needs to sort out now. <ok>

Agreed. We played well against a team many think will top the championship (I Dont) and for large parts City were the better team. Wasteful finishing and one piece of "Key Stone Cop" defending by James Chester cost us the goal.
Many plusses performance wise though. Now City fans will know how Brighton fans must have felt on saturday night. ReGroup and go again @ Charlton on saturday.

Did he ? Were they there to see it ? Chester should have cleared it,, instead he kicked it straight at a Blackburn player and Kazi-Richards poked home the loose ball. Un-deserved winner despite what the Sky muppets said on SSN this morning. Driving home even Robbie Savage(who is a biased ex.Blackburn player) on 5 live said to Steve Bruce that he wanted to know how Hull City had not taken at least a point from that game ? We all do Robbie, we all do.

100% correct and agreed with ^^^^^ this. Some fans are never happy whatever happens and the game should have been won by City long before the Blackburn goal. <ok>

Wums and egg chasers i bet most of them are. :bandit:

I'm confident we will be there or thereabouts the top 6 come May. This division is about momentum and if we get back to back wins, which I'm sure we will sooner rather than later, then we may go on a bit of a run.

Yes. I noticed one Blackburn fan virtually agreeing with all our Kean related chants until the Steve Keans a genius one. His reaction was a funny one screaming no at us.

I still think we should campaign for majority standing at away games! Haha

I was on the back row too next to some Aussie Tigers, although i couldn't be arsed standing the whole game so i did sit but that didn't stop me joining in. I thought it was pretty subdued for an away game from our part also.

Blackburn Fans on the train back to Preston was all banging on windows singing Kean Out, something about one of their owners (either the wife or daughter) having a spot between her eyebrows (obviously it was racist and rude so i won't write it out) then they changed the King Kenny wearing a magic hat to one about Steve Kean wearing it backwards and looking like a twat. Plus plenty more which would of been alot more amusing if they sang in the stadium.

I was expecting us to sneak it 1-0 before the game, then after watching i thought both teams looked poor really, nothing that entertaining, passes going everywhere, not quick enough when coming to taking shots, wasn't taking the chances we got and so on....the same old usual **** really. Can see we need some more signings, a fast winger/midfielder and even another striker...was Proffitarole playing upfront alone? i couldn't work out if he was, if so it was stupid cos we struggle to score 4-4-2 nevermind 4-5-1, Simpson should of started alongside.

For the first ten to fifteen minutes, we looked uncomfortable with the formation, like nobody was entirely sure what they were supposed to be doing, but by the end of the first half we looked by far the more likely to score, with Fryatt involved, I think we'd have won last night.

The second half was poor, it looked like it was going to be a 0-0 until the lapse for their goal, if anyone has Bruce in their fantasy football team, congratulations on the assist. <laugh>

From what I deduced from listening to 5 live last night, and what the majority on the thread are saying that went to the game, is for the most part SB got his tactic right, and once they got the first 10 minuties out of the way, it worked well. We were probably the better team with the better chases, but we still need to up the ratio of attempts to goals scored. Their goal was fortuitous, even though Chester should have cleared as well as Bruce. Overall though against the favourites to win the league not a bad performance.

I hate 3 CB's, I always think a team who set up like that deserve to get beat. We have two excellent CB's why play 3?? Besides Mckenna is virtually a limpet to our CB's anyway it just means we have even more players further away from their goal.

Well...I wasn't there, but from 5Live, it sounded as if Chezz ****ed up and Bruce - at least - reacted first. Just unfortunate that he knocked it into one of their players.

But then, you've got a point to prove re Alex/Steve Bruce.....Haven't you?

Chester missed the header, but it wasn't in front of the goal, it just allowed the ball to be played back in front of the goal, where Faye, Bruce and Dudgeon were all standing, I think Bruce should have kicked it sideways, not straight back into danger, but then that's just my biased opinion having sat and watched it.
