Where JT is concerned many Chelsea fans are blind. Whilst JT has been the best thing to come out of our academy in a generation he read the game like no other. Apart from 04/05 (his first season) he was easily the better half of the partnership. Carvalho declined in 07/08 but was excellent up until then. Even if not physically he could work wonders in terms of coaching. JT was more brawn and Carvalho more brain. Even Torres (when at Liverpool) said Carvalho was the better of the two and was the best in the PL
He is a fantastic player (enjoys his gamesmanship a touch) and I'd love him to come to us BUT, at the risk of pissing on everyone's Birthday cakes, why on earth would anyone ever loan out a 34 year old? Is it because they want him to gain another year's experience before unleashing a rejuvanated 35 year old on unsupsecting La Liga opposition? OK, it might be they think he's the brightest next coach they've ever seen but he's not ready to stop playing or they want half his wages paid while they tick another year on his contract but if that was the case then they'd just flog him to an MLS/Saudi/Chinese/Russian team for a final pay day and both parties would be happy. Doesn't make sense so if, IF there was any truth then surely it would be to sign him (ie our player) on a year long contract? Maybe it's just me....
If both these deals come off its going to be a bit of a shock for a certain Mr Onuoha. He has been favoured by MH up till now but you can't see him getting a look in at full back now that Bosingwa is around and these two signings would close of the CB positions also. I personally don't have a problem with that as I think he has been overrated to some extent - he might think otherwise of course.
Fai point. While Onouha has had off field problems with his Mum being ill I do think signings like him and SWP have come into the club seeing it as a small club where they will be guaranteed games. Hopefully competition might bring the best out of him.
"I can't confirm anything with QPR," Mourinho stated. "I don't even know if the information is correct or not because they've told me that Dawson has signed for QPR for £9 million – if they've signed Dawson, I don't know if they'll be interested in Carvalho." Jose Mourinho
Carvalho did the running for Terry at Chelsea. A few Chelski fans I know have said that looking back they hugely underrated the job Carvalho did to make Terry look good. He's a a experienced campaigner now and maybe he himself can be the brains of the defence whilst Onouha does the running for him. I can see it working.
Exactly what I was thinking reading through this thread. Good short term signing imo. Be good at teaching our other younger defenders (mainly Ohouho and Ferdinand)...will keep the ship steady instead of panicking and conceding loads as we did on Saturday. I think I would rather a short term loan which will help develop the defenders we have, and bring out their potential...as opposed to spending upward of 7 million on Dawson, who as we all know is injury prone and could well be another Dyer.
If, as is now being said, this is an either or with Dawson, I'd much prefer Carvalho for a year plus taking a risk on a younger (much) CB (Zouma or whoever). Carvalho is what we need - a genuinely intelligent player.
Carvalho is class and would be great to get in on a loan, my only problem is he probably lead the back 4 which is seriously what we are missing.
