It's a valid concern. If Abramovitch were to walk away from the scum they would be well and truly shafted. We are a long way behind of course but moving into similar territory and the cases of Glasgow Rangers and Portsmouth hang over the football world like specters. However, the fact is that we will never be a major force again without this kind of cash injection. The hope is that the new stadium arrives pronto and that we quickly develop into a more self sustaining operation. In the meantime the club is out there for sure but for once, rather than just dreaming, we are living the dream.
No inferiority complex here. Inferior to who? Chelscum? We, or at least I (can't speak for you lot), deserve a few years of insane success. I have no worries about spending cash (actually think its well controlled so far), this club is being set up in a totally new way by people who do things in a different way to Ken Bates, Daniel Levy, the Russian and the others. But everything will feel different, and not all of us will be happy. Then again I could be wrong.
I know how you're feeling OP. I don't think anyone expected us to have the season we had in 10/11 and since then it's all been a blur for me. I was quite young still when we were relegated from the PL so I basically grew up with us in deep financial sh*t and being a lower league club (in Ireland that's especially tough with the glory hunters everywhere), and I'm still experiencing somewhat of a culture shock of us being in the premier league and splashing the cash. I pray that we won't do a Portsmouth. Luckily TF seems to have caught a bug after the end of last season. I think it's vital that within the next decade or so we become self sufficient and dive deeper into the Asian market, the new stadium is vital too. UEFA seem to be getting more strict on the financial sides of the game as well. People wonder why City haven't spent huge again this summer, maybe it's not to change a title winning team, but I bet UEFA's Financial Fair Play influenced them. I can't see TF or MH allowing us to make huge losses if the aim is to compete in Europe in the years to come (which will be vital for self sustainment).
I have to admit that I am struggling a little with all of this too. I am not pessimistic at all but have these lingering thoughts in the back of my mind that won't go away. Having had year after year of sh**e at our club it's a little hard to comprehend what's happening now. I am realistic enough to know that this will be a bumpy road with many ups and downs , I just have to take the advice of buckle up and enjoy the ride
Think you're right about Adel. For me a bit of a watershed moment. Historically our stars have left to try and better themselves yet here we are with a supremely talented player extending his contract and committing to the club! MH probably hasn't had the credit he deserves for sorting that.
Its not an inferiority complex. For most its simply the opinion that throwing money at mercenaries and "super-stars" just doesn't work. When I think of the amount of money squandered by Sunderland since they came up, it makes me shudder. It didn't work for us last season and I must admit to being slightly concerned at where we're going at the moment.
Forget that lot in fulham evenif they think they are in up market Chelsea. If something happens to RA they will be right in the do do. we have 2 benefactors one of which had massive wealth making TF look like a poor man. Football is a massive attraction through out the world and our owners know what they are doing. Enjoy the ride. I did in the 60's and 70's and it was great. i dont think the days of the dodgy owners will return. our current owners see it as a business which they intend to grow into a global brand. Just hope I live long enough to see us in europe again.
Swords, lighten up. stop being so negative. enjoy the ride. Perhaps it is true you are a Liverpool supporter. From the bile you spout about our players it makes me wonder. and before you make the usual allegation I'm not drunk. It's too f*****g hot to go out yet. Perhaps you should stick to supporting the Irish teams who play with that funny shaped stick.
If you are concerned then play it safe with a tweed two piece and keep those heels low ... You can't carry it off at your age ... Think More Penelope Keith and less Penelope Cruz
We can do it! Stan Bowles will be coming back, and Swords, you can do Christine Keeler with stockings and suspenders in Dublin.
The only one who plays with a funny shaped stick around here is Oddball, when he and his male "friends" meet up once a month in Brighton
