    Perfect example.

And the only Englishman bar Rooney & Lampard to hit 20 league goals, yeah he's a **** player ain't he (how the **** did I forget him!)

Bit slow off the mark there, you lot are quick on here.

This one might come back and bite a few of the toon fans in the arse come derby day. In fairness, it's rare that top strikers are relegated but he's got something about him, and like I mentioned earlier, the fee could be compared to other players but you only have to look at Joe Allen's transfer to the bindippers to see that if a manager sees that player as ideal for his system* then you need to look at the bigger picture and not just the fee.

    *Joe Allen hahaha

£15million for Joe Allen is crazy, it's like somebody paying £35million for Carroll or £16million for Henderson, and that'd never happen....

Nah, I'd never expect to see those type of fees Mush, the bindippers are usually sensible with their cash, like that time when they only paid £20m for Downing and £10m for the drunk Scottish bloke who keeps trying to injure Bale, oh, oh and £20m for Robbie Keane and £20m for Glen Johnson, and... that should do it, I can here them coming.... quick I need to get my Dimitar Berbatov and Juan Sebastian Veron excuses ready.

    Ha ha.

    Let me help

Veron 'when we signed him many rated him as the best CM in the world, having just dragged an average Lazio side to the title, it was always a slight gamble that he could adapt his game, but his quality was evident in patches'

Berba 'has scored consistently despite never having been first choice at the club, several trophies have been delivered during his stint, and likely he will be sold, recouping a large chunk of the fee'

    Your welcome.

Got to agree. Give him a year or two we will get a few good seasons out of him imo.

    Not to Bebe. RAW.

    Never to Bebe.

I think Fergie's best bet with Bebe is to try and lose him in some Eastern European country that the reserves might have to travel to, or just hide him underneath all of the old footies and stuff in the kit store.

Better still, stick a wig and a 'tache on him and drop him off at Melwood, they might think he's one of their own.

"Tottenham Hotspur have revealed that Darren Bent’s transfer to Sunderland is worth up to £16.5million.

A statement on the Sunderland website failed to mention any possible add-ons, by just deciding to reveal the intial £10million fee.

Spurs announced to the Stock Exchange: “Tottenham Hotspur plc announces that agreement has been reached for the transfer of the player registration of Darren Bent to Sunderland AFC for a total consideration of up to £16.5 million.”

£16.5million is the amount which Spurs paid to Charlton two years ago for the England forward"

I don't think any credible news source mentions the fee for Bent as £8m? Indeed, most detailed reports at the time he left you lot seemed to indicate the move triggered a further instalment to Spurs leaving you with little cash up front from Villa's own first instalment? I think that £8m for Bent is misinformation.

    * * *

As for Fletcher I think you are right, the deal will be structured to suit both parties. Wolves will be able to claim £14m I don't doubt, although a large chunk will be made up of (possibly never triggered) add ons.

I reckon it'll be something like £8m up front, £2m in realistic add ons that'll be paid within a season, and a further £4m in add ons that will never be realised. You'll probably pay c.£10m for the lad (IMHO)

Good signing for you lot in football terms, although I still think the fee appears excessive (I think he's worth what Wolves paid for him).

Still, the derby just got a heck of a lot more interesting! <ok>

What's the realistic league aim for you lot now you have a striker in (genuine question)?

It was quite openly pointed reported when we sold Bent, that the fee we paid was £10million, that included the first 'add on', which was a top 10 finish, I think (obviously I don't know 100%), that's where I speculated 'closer to £8million' from on initial fee.

Regardless, we never paid the £16.5million, and sold him for £24million, and he was a relegated player who went on to massive success (ongoing)

Re realistic target, I think Fletch should see us 10th, i'll push that to 8th if we get AJ & Olsson.

I fancy a good cup run this season.

Durham is Wearside , by the way, you treacherous hound..

Some fair points. What do I think of Fletcher? Great signing for us right now and yes a lot of money.
Still top 10 to 8 for me.

However, if we pull the Johnson deal off as well, we will definitely aim for European places as a target.

    Add another good striker?

I'd love to play in Europe kidda. I'm jealous of your trip for tomorrows game.

My point wasn't about the price, it was about the ridiculous notion that a player could be a "relegator" just because he's had the misfortune to play for two substandard Premiership teams.

Also what about Johnson, Berbatov and amazingly Dempsey if we got all them we will finish top 6. And as for Fletcher we need a crosser in because he will score a lot of goals with his head.
