The way its worded "but it would take a bid of at least £10m to persuade Alan Pardew to part with the Ivorian" seems to suggest transfer fee. I mean what would alan pardew have to do with Tiotes 10m wages.

Grrrrr ..typical half arsed Journo, Every other football club outside of London, the London suburbs of Manchester and Liverpool(red half) are feeder clubs to them..So perfectly reasonably 10 mil for Tiote and NUFC will be grateful for that too!!
To be fair IMO, Song is much better than Tiote, I think they would probably look for an improvement on him to be fair. But it is daft though, I don't even think we would start considering offers for him until it hit the 20 million mark.
Attacking-wise, he certainly is. He's a great player maker and better on the ball. But defensively, he isn't. I'd say Tiote is the better defensive mid. He harasses opposition CM's far better, he's stronger, he stays on his feet better, I think opposition strikers and CM's would be more scared of playing against Tiote than Song. In terms of tackling and reading of the game, they're probably about the same. So attacking wise, Song is better, and he's more technical than Tiote, but If a team was looking for a defensive/holding mid, that can break up opposition attacks, make it difficult for the opposition to play, and physically wear down the opposition, definitely Tiote. Plus, when Tiote is his usual self, he's not an amazing passer, but he can usually find players well, short range and long range, with good accuracy.
