I think we have a chance of keeping him, and if anything we should play him as much as possible and try and get as high as we can in the table. If we do well along with Ben Arfa coming back, the potential signing of Ireland (if he does well) and having £35 million to spend I reckon he could be persuaded to sign.

Although to be honest, I wouldn't mind so much if we kept him even if he didn't sign a new contract, obviously we'd lose out on a transfer fee, but with him in the side and getting some quality players in the summer I don't think that Europe would be too out of the question (maybe a sneaky 7th place) - something that'll be worth more than any transfer fee. Then he'd be free to go if he likes, we'd be better off and Shane will be better off with another year being involved in the first team and learning from Jose himself, personally I don't think Shane is ready for regular footy yet and I doubt there's a player of Jose's quality available for a reasonable fee.

But meh, it's Ashley, he'll just want to rake in the money this summer.

Why not drop Nolan and put Barton in the centre and Jonas on the right with Ferguson on the left.

why hasn't anyone thought of playing 5 in midfield drop one of the "strikers" and push Barton center mid guti right fergie left. that way we keep our top goal scorer on the pitch as well.
