Jinky Jimmy Scott is 72 today.

I remember the days when the pubs used to close at 3:00 pm and he'd often be seen walking around town like a lost soul, eating plums out of a brown paper bag while waiting for opening time of 5:30 or 6:00 pm in some cases. Always quiet and polite, none of the I'm Jimmy Scott the superstar kind of thing from him.

Happy birthday Jimmy, hope you have a great one.

A bit more info about Jimmy Scott. Courtesy of NUFC.com

Right winger whose part in Magpies history is assured, for his exploits in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup campaign of 1968/69.

Joining Falkirk from Denny Rovers, Jim never made a senior appearance for his hometown side before moving on to Bo'ness United and then Hibernian.

In almost a decade at Easter Road, Scott appeared in the Fairs Cup and was called up once for Scotland, against Holland in 1966.

Joe Harvey paid £37,500 to bring Jim to SJP in 1967 and a year later, he scored United's first goal in Europe, against Feyenoord.

Three more goals followed in that campaign - one in Lisbon, one at home to Rangers in the riot game and one in the final first leg.

Jim also found the net the following season against Porto, moving on to Crystal Palace in February 1970.

He had to retire in '76 because of injury problems and I haven't really heard much about him since then.

Don't really think he'd be driving a cab now though.

Happy Birthday Jinky Jimmy Scott <diva>

Far too young to know of him (and to use this seniors forum <nahnah>), but it's one of the best parts of these forums, learning from the... errrrr... wiser posters about the history of the club. Good post AB <applause>

Hopefully I (/definitely someone else... can just see Tash in a tweed jacket sitting in a leather armchair and twiddling with his computer implant (not a euphemism... I think)) can do the same for the next generation :emoticon-0175-drunk

Jim Scott was never known as "Jinky Jim". That was Jimmy Smith, a delightful player and a big drinker. I remember the semi final at Hillsborough, we stayed in the ground to celebrate a marvellous 2-0 win, courtesy of Terry Hibbitt and Supermac. As we walked back to the car, I saw Jimmy Smith walk into the nearest boozer straight after the game with his mates!
