He thinks Martin is far better than Seaborne and that Hammond should start for us, probably safe to assume he tries to be wrong.
None of the goals were his fault? Richardson isn't great, he's got a good cross and good going forward, but he's slow and quite poor defensively. I remember nit picking quite a few of the goals we conceded last season in which he was partly responsible for, the two Blackpool goals at St Mary's come to mind.
'Seaborne was the one to loan out. Martin has experience in the Championship and looked good enough at that level to me. Seaborne is a complete unknown quantity at this level. We've seen how Barnard looked in league one, decent, and how poor he looked when returning in the championship. Seaborne will return in prem, that is presuming we don't sign anyone' Hammond - 'In a game like this all that will matter is his good qualities. I wouldn't play him in games I expect us to try and dominate or take the opponent toe to toe.' Why lie and be a nobhead? Football is a game of opinions and unless you are arguing facts then no one is right or wrong. If you disagree fine but don't lie and be a dick.
Erm. You do think Martin is better than Seaborne and you did say Hammond should start. Where did I lie? Don't take it so personally and stoop to insults, are you upset?
Peculiar, because I feel exactly the opposite. While I'm not hugely worried about either, Jos is a little too static for me at times. The little quality striker is able to wriggle around him. Jose being just a little more mobile is better in that area. Both, I think are excellent in the air, Jos probably slightly more so. I think they are a pretty good partnership, and will get better as they get the pace of the PL. But they are not for a top 6 team, which Saints first goal is for, after establishing themselves back in the division. They'll certainly do in a squad containing 4 PL quality CB's though.
Fonte had some very hairy moments towards the back end of last season, so personally I'm a little worried about him. Hopefully that's behind him but the jury's out for me. Hooiveld was my player of the season, hardly put a foot wrong, though conceding a penalty in the first premier league game is a slight concern! Whoever is better (and personally I'm not sure, though I favour Hooiveld right now) it's clear we urgently need reinforcements in that area.
From what I hear Fonte was carrying a knock for a large portion of last season. We definitely need back up, but Hooiveld and Fonte have earnt the chance to prove themselves for me. Especially after yesterday! Fonte was a titan for us in league one, and if he can re-capture that form then I think he will be fine. (I know it was against league one players, but he is still a great player. Loved that he even tried a couple of runs forward towards the end yesterday!) If one of the two were to get injured though, then I would definitely be worried. So yup, back-up is needed. Although like I said, I think it's only fair that Nige sticks with Fonte and Hooiveld even if we do bring in another CB. At least until they prove that they aren't up to it.
What I was saying is Seaborne and Martin can't be compared as they haven't played at the same level. I didn't say Martin was better, you can't compare them as explained. As for Hammond you implied I wanted him to start all the time which I don't as mentioned.
As someone else has mentioned, Jose was carrying a knock for most of last season. However, I take your point. I think both were very capable in the Championship, and I'm sure they'll be OK, in the PL, although not together, for best results. Both need someone more mobile next to them in the PL, Jos especially so, in my opinion. Hence the fact that I'm slightly more worried about his capability in the PL than Jose's.
Well if you'd rather loan Seaborne out than Martin surely that implies you mean Martin would be of more use to us and is therefore better? And I didn't imply anything, I said you think Hammond should start, and so far you've thought he should start 100% of our games - calling him a "rare talent" (I think those were the words) sent out a message you wanted him to start more often. Let's be fair, I wasn't exactly lying, was I?
Hammond a rare talent , I have been posting for years under various guises but never in a million years and for a million more will I read such a beaut as that ! Dean Hammond a rare talent , like an ugly child that only his mother could love springs to mind but certainly can nowhere near come to surpassing that nugget of absolute forum gold . Just say it to yourself without smirking , Dean Hammond a rare talent ......
I feel Martin has more potential than seaborne. My worry is he was turned too easily in the few times we saw him last year. And he is nowhere near his full physical potential, hence the loan for development rather than soley not good enough. I think if he does well at palace next year he may start a bit. Seaborne, as I remember, was inconsistent. Anyone lese agree? Good game bad game? To be summarise I don't feel comfortable with either Martin or Seaborne at Cb against most prem teams, although I think martin has more of a future with saints.
As for Hammond I'm really not sure. Its a shame as he's been a loyal servant and earned a place, although with Schneiderlin, Cork, Davis and now JWP he may find geting a place tough. Although Chappers really suprised me at the start of last year, never thought he'd cope in champ but before his injury he was impressive. Will hammond do the same?!
