I would rarely support the local Daily Mail, let alone the National one, and from a big non-supporter of that 'sugar-rush' also known as the London Olympics, who can argue with the writings of Patrick Collins?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-2190329/Patrick-Collins-Venomous-vacuous-footballers-worst-enemies.html?fb_action_ids=10151183697985135&fb_action_types=og.recommends&fb_source=other_multiline&action_object_map={%2210151183697985135%22%3A10151169062091789}&action_type_map={%2210151183697985135%22%3A%22og.recommends%22}&action_ref_map=[]

"While the nation revels in the glories of an Olympic summer, football comes trampling through the front door; thumping its chest and waving its wad."

"Arrogance is its default position. It finds no lessons worth learning, no reasons for reproach. I offer in evidence Richard Scudamore, the chief executive of the Premier League. Scudamore is an intelligent man who pretends to be stupid when it suits his purpose but, on this occasion, he exceeds his brief."

"It is gibberish, of course, as even the most infrequent football watcher could testify, but it is a measure of football’s smug insularity that the man charged with running its most important competition can propagate such palpable tosh."

I've read some similar articles which were well written, this one...well Im not surprised its from the Mail tbh.

John Terry hasn't been found guilty of anything, yet there seems to be a view in ****e media such as the Mail that he should be hung out to dry. Before being found guilty. Or hey, maybe innocent. There's worse ****e shouted from the crowds but the people who do nothing about it are happy to light up some torches and sharpen their pitchforks in righteous indignation.

The problem isn't football. The problem is society.

So - how do you account for the behaviour/attitude/responses of the crowd at the Olympics? What makes that crowd different?

Problem is for every ar5e hole like Terry, there are prob 5-10 players who are perfectly nice people who do a lot for charities (like Drogba) and actually give back to the community, unfortunately the same people writing articles like the above are writing the articles which out people like Terry but rarely recognise the good stuff done.......so the media are at fault for everything in my view! I'm sure if they dug deep enough they'd find sufficient cr@p on olympians to fill their papers each week and turn the public's perceptions the other way...prob for them is that would not sell papers.

Mostly foreigners and people who spent a fortune for a once in a lifetime nice day out. Football crowds think they own the club, the ground, the players and think what amounts to pretty horrible behavior is actually acceptable when it isn't.

Plus the Olympics weren't all nicey nicey. The pickpockets and touts were in action outside the venues. Competitors cheated, made racist comments and took drugs. Team managers were not gracious in defeat. Not bad for a 2 week meeting really.

Firstly Olympians where the focus of our attention for three weeks every four years. Premier League footballers are the focus of our attention every day of the week every year. So of course you are going to hear far more about footballers, also the fans are a completely different demographic. Their a different audience you don't expect them to react the same. It's like going to watch Cinderella and expecting the audience to react the same as an Opera.

but as the programme points out, far from being classic traditional fan inclusive English football anymore, the premiership has merely evolved into a 10 month edition of Wimbledon with a predictable winner at the end of it. by comparison, the olympics is just a sugar rush every 4 years and reason for those who live their lives by spin and media hype alone to get excited before they go back to corry and eastenders.

You can't seriously think the Daily Mail is a middle of the road paper...its written by and read by right wing lunatics.

You predicted Man C would win last year eh? Good job, can you give us a clue for this year? Did you forecast Chelsea winning the CL too? Interested you hate Sky and Murdoch then use people watching ITV1 and BBC1 as examples of sheep.

So basically you despise anyone who watches any TV Mussie?? :D
