I know that's old news put it keeps on being reported. Is this going anywhere or is it just specualtion? Also, what's this i hear about Harry Kewell coming here? From the HDM "Bruce will hope to see his ranks strengthened before Saturdayâs trip to the capital, but moves for Sunderland pair David Meyler and Ahmed Elmohamady are dependent on Martin OâNeill doing business of his own. The two midfielders both came on as substitutes in Sunderlandâs 0-0 draw at Arsenal on Saturday. Bruce added: âWeâre still two or three short so we need to see what we can do in the next ten days.â
My view is that we have always had Meyler & Elmo on our radar but it was always going to be a case of Sunderland bringing in replacements first
If this is dependant on Sunderland doing business then it could well go to August 31st or into September(loan window) as Sunderland really are struggling to do anything. If Everton do get Adam Johnson thats a further fly in the ointment. Whatever happens this week I expect a squad team to play at Doncaster next week. Steve Bruce more or less intimated that with Burnsy on saturday. So my team would be : - Jakupovic McShane Bruce jnr Cooper(if fit) Dawson OR Townsend Devitt Evans Olifinjana Cairney Simpson Fryatt(if fit) Not a bad team on paper for the Doncaster Cup game. imo. We could name a very strong bench just in case though.
I'm pretty sure he won't completely change the team, he might switch a few bodies, but not the whole team.
Could have sworn they were saying Elmohamady is at Villa on 5 live on Saturday, clearly not. I'd say Amos McShane Chester Bruce Dawson Stewart Evans Cairney Aluko Proshcwitz Simpson/Fryatt/Mclean (could be any one of those, depends when Fryatt returns and what goes on in the League) Possibly Oli in for Evans
Not seen anything about Kewell, class player though even if he is a bit old, could be a Pederson like signing for one season
Im pretty certain we are after Meyler and Elmohamady, however I think Bruce wants a third player when listening to some of his post match comments after Brighton. “But we’ve still got work to do. Physically we’re still short, we’re not the biggest side in the league and we’re still short of two or three players, although a manager is always going to say that.”. Elmo is 5 ft 11 however Meyler is 6 ft 3. So Meyler would address that problem but I still think he wants another winger on top of Elmo or possibly even another striker with some height.
Who knows. Bruce said that after Blackburn and Charlton he would go with players who need game time. That was how i based my team selection. Its hardly a bad one is it. Plus any new signings would have to be added to it.
I just based my comment on what he said ahead of the last game - "A cup tie is a cup tie and we want to win it. I'll certainly be putting a team out that will resemble something close to what we'll be doing the following week. It's a cup competition and we've got to give it the respect it deserves. No matter who you're playing or which round you're in, you want to win the game and progress."
Assume this is complete rubbish but some Sunderland fan reckons he knows our physio and apparently we have three booked in for medicals on thursday. http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=723510
If the medicals are on Thursday, I might be able to get you the scoop. I know someone that works at the place they are carried out.
I don't care for the last comment on the first page: concerning 'the physio' and Meyler. Sounds ominous!
Johnson and Fletcher to Sunderland today,is this getting closer. Just read a doctors comments saying that Meylers knee injury was the worst he's ever seen and he was surprised he played again. Hope these are both loans if it happens.
With Adam Johnson and Steven Fletcher now signed up it could well be ELMOS'S FIRE at Doncaster tuesday night ? sorry.
