Evening blues, welcome to the first proper match thread ahead of this new vibrant season. After a stunning end to our campaign last season, and some fresh faces around Cobham, we look to start the season off with a good win against a side who are usually poor at the beginning of the season to kick start a title challenge <ok>

Last time we met Wigan we won 2-1 with a late winner from Juan Mata, hopefully it won't so difficult this time <laugh>.

Sturridge had a slight toe injury and was ommitted from the England set-up, Marin with a similar scale hamstring problem and both likely to be fit enough to feature I hear. Wigan with no apprent injuries!

I think this is how we'll line up. Personally I'd take Mikel out and put Ramires there and provided he's fit put Marin on the right (Sturridge if he isn't). Either way, a strong line up nonetheless so no excuses if we don't win.

Taken from goal.com, just a guess really. Moses may not play due to the deal being arranged between ourselves and Wigan for him so perhaps Maloney will replace him.

Like I said previously, no excuses for this one - a must win! Especially since Wigan are nearly always dogshit in the first part of the season. My prediction for this one is that we will win comfortably, I'll go with 4-1 <ok>

On paper this ought to be a cruise, but having seen the results of Queens Park Queens, Arsenal, Spuds and Liverpool, the Wigan away trip is now beginning to make me feel very nervous!

    It's driving me to drink!

The new season's finally here ! Looking forward to seeing the (mostly) full team tomorrow; now that we will actually have the motivation to win, the lads should pick up the points without too much trouble.

Yes it would have been nice to win pre-season and against City, but I feel the players lacked the motivation to play at their best. I'll go with 2-0.

Shows why we're interested in Moses. We have no right sided players.

We also need another striker. Torres and Sturridge for 60 games is just not enough.

2-0 already, good for the fantasy team anyway. Didn't you guys have the same fixture last season?

Eden Hazard - a class act - will be Prem Player Of The Season IMO. He's already got me 14 points in the FPL.

Played the man there. Should be a foul on Torres.

Wigan are on top, 2 well deserved goals but we look too relaxed now. Definitely missing Ramires!

Poor refereeing. McArthur and McCarthy allowed to hack our players without punishment whilst Luiz gets booked at the first opportunity. Caldwell (Wigan captain) seemed to do what Terry often gets accused of (talking to the referees in order to get them to be more lenient and make up their minds for them), but nothing will be said of it.

Not watching the game but bbc live text gives the impression you are barely having a touch of the ball?

Winning 2-0 though so maybe they are referring to a period where wigan strung 3 passes together and calling it dominating?

We're definitely the better side and quite obviously saving some energy for Wednesday especially being 2-0 up so early on. Wigan aren't giving up though.

No, Wigan are dominating. We are just sitting back absorbing their pressure. But apart from 1 shot from Moses, Cech hasn't really had to do much.

    Cool.

Hows the players looking, Torres getting the service he missed last season? What about Hazard?
