First game in new season, expectations a tad higher.

Apart from a few moments, he looked solid to me.

Some great touches and punches away.

Overall i thought a draw would have been a fair result but delighted with the win. Some real quality from us at times. Ba goal brilliant finish. MOM Ben Arfa the difference on the day. Apart from a couple of minor slips i thought all of the players did pretty well. Poor marking to allow Defoe in for his header tho. Disagree on with some on Krul, i thought he was excellent. Some great saves and unlucky for their goal. As for Anita i think he looks very exciting. "Very Lightweight"??? why is everyone so obsessed with size? The very lightweight Iniesta and Messi are both just 1 INCH taller than him and he looks fairly stocky and strong to me.

Were you at the same game I was at? Tiote had a shocker today. Awful Admit it - its as though his mind is already at his next club. *cough* Arsenal anybody?

Simpson was very lucky not to be sent off. I would have subbed him after 25 minutes.

I don't want to be THAT guy, but we were shaky today! Don't get me wrong, playing a team from the top 4 we played exactly right and 3 points are 3 points but there were glaring mistakes that we ignore 'cause we won!

Tiote's usallly accurate passing today was poor, no stats to back it up, but he gave at least 3 silly, close to our box balls aways....Cabaye never looked like getting involved, he was beatifull but ineffective - Guttierez worked hard but I think he was a little bit sloppy in possesion, won his usual number of freekicks (which i think are invaluable) but his through balls were shocking and let us vunerable on the break- there was at least 3 or 4 times he gave it to the opposition with an underrcooked pass,,,Simpson's ball to Ba was class and he did a handfull of quality things BUT his job is to guard the right hand side, regardless of who plays in fron of him and he didn't, they targetted him and he delt OK but he's not at a class of player we need to target europe next year IMO!

Overlall we won, and I've celebrated hard - I'll be hoenst, I'm typing this with one eye open to try and make the screen focussed, purely 'causse I was so happy we won, but I think your ratings need at least 1 if not 2 dockings!

I agree with what you said, and more or less agree with Tash's ratings, but I don't think Santon had that good a game. The goal , despite being offside, was caused when Santon headed the ball towards Krul when Defoe missed it... Apart from that he was acceptable even though Lennon posed some problems for him.. Jonas was amazing today... Either out wide or in the central, he showed us why he wore the captain's armband. It's the best I've seen him in all the years he's been here (including the Man Utd debut he had for us)

He didn't actually head the ball, Defoe's header hit him.

I think apart from a few little moments, he was very good. His reading of the game has improved, he cut out a lot of passes, he was comfortable on the ball, he did very well, and against a side which you would have though have caused him problems, pace and passing.

Whereas Tiote did have a poor game I think it is more than very harsh to suggest this was due to his head being elsewhere. Some of his defensive work was good, it was just he couldn't pass water! I was calling for Simpson to be taken off early doors but I was clearly wrong. He got stronger and stronger as the game went on and him/Santons role in us winning yesterday should not be underestimated. Spurs main threats were Bale/Lennon and they kept them relatively quiet. Once again tactical awareness from Pards sorted us out at half time. Simpson maybe could have come pelting out of position for the goal but the raw facts are that Benni was alseep and exposed us. We have to accept that and I'm happy to when he can do what he can.

    WHAT A RESULT!!!

Disagree with most of the ratings Tash because it was quite a poor game to watch, neither side at their best or ever truly fluent. First half was a washout except for a couple of their efforts which hit the woodwork, and while we played better in the second half, the fact we couldn't get our strikers properly in the game shows how ineffective our central midfield was.

Ben Arfa was excellent though. Every time he got it he beat a man or two, and was the only one out of both teams who seemed to make decent progress in some pretty attritional stuff.

Knew Defoe would score, always does against us, and he could have had a couple. with some better luck.

Overall, difficult home game, 3 points is outstanding. We only got one last year, so we are already up by 2. Means if we get a draw against Chelsea, everyone will be ecstatic and we'll be level overall with last year! Brilliant sign-off before I'm off on holiday. Here's to hoping we get a point at Chelsea, then you all have to suffer through a turgid 0-0 with Villa so I don't miss owt! <cheers>

We need players in soon as its going to be a long season, simpson shocking again and at fault for their goal
I am tad fed up of pardew highlighting the potential departure of tiote and cabaye,screwed.com if that happened.
Going back to the game a decent result against ao solid team it could have gone either way but we did enough.
Another positive it will shut up cock boy waddle who is so far up spurs arse

There were one or two sluggish performances the first half, improved second half.

100% from the crowd though, the atmosphere was amazing, the singing from the East Stand/Gallowgate corner was immense! <badger> :emoticon-0159-music :emoticon-0159-music

Thought the Spurs supporters got behind their team well. Made as much noise as any away fans have.

I agree, i thought Tiote played really well but his longer passes were awful. To suggest his head was elswhere tho is a bit chroniclesque. Suggest something and point out you heard it here first on the rare occaision you are right and hope everyone has forgotten on the majorityof occaisions you are wrong.
Cabaye looked good but not often enough. I thought we looked a bit like last season. Keep possesion at the back then under pressure run out of ideas and punt a long ball forward in hope but usually lose possesion. Improved in second half and got at them a bit more. Need to improve before Chelsea away.
Most close wins come in games you might have lost so lets not be too critical. This was a hard game against a good side and we won. Both sides were scrappy at times.
Santon could do nothing about the deflection off him for the goal and generally played quite well and got forward to good effect at times.
Simpson wasnt great but did ok and interesting that Bale was almost non existant so Simmo must have been doing something right.
Not sure who should have been marking Defoe for the goal tho, that was poor tho interesting to hear he was offside. If that had been given it would have made our win all the better.

havent heard wadddle but according to the rest of the media we were lucky,i mean its a disgrace, northen upstarts!they hit the woodwork twice don't you know, note to media the wooden bits are there to hold the net up, yes the net ,the thing those geordie barstards hit twice .Thought ben arfa was at fault for there goal by the way, he headed it in over which they collected and ended up sticking it in the net only the once though

If Waddle had been commentating on the game he would have said it should never have been a pelanty.
