Last week I posted a thread saying I thought those who were predicting top ten and Europe were getting ahead of themselves. Well, today really is the wake-up call. Swansea were a cut above us, but, having said that, I don't think we should be pressing the panic button. I thought we were the better side for much of the first half. We gave away a stupid soft goal but came back well and dominated for long periods, if we'd taken our chances, Mackie in particular, it may have been very different. The second half just ran away from us, if you see a better quality finish than Michu's 2nd goal you'll be lucky, it was a sublime strike and even then we weren't out of it. But poor passing at their end left us open to the sucker punch and Dyer did it twice, including one from a pass by Routledge that was so similar to Routledge's goal from a Taraabt pass against Coventry a couple of years ago. It was simply their day and we, in chasing the game and passing poorly, made it easy for them in the last half hour. The conclusion? We have an away game against another team that took a five goal thrashing next week, that means both sides will be striving to show it was a 'bad day at the office' rather than a crisis. My main concern today was that Taraabt wasted the ball so often which gave us little threat and Cisse was very poor. I still think our defence is suspect and I think we may see Nelsen or Onuoha in for Hill with Bosingwa on the right and possibly Zamora for Adel. All told a horrible day but there are 37 to go...
DON'T PANIC... our call to arms. Not the first thing that's associated us with Dads Army of late is it?! Hope that means we'll be putting it up 'em some time soon then!
Totally. I'm sick of Oddball and his Clowns trying to create an alternate reality and then put the rest of us down as "fickle" and other such derogatory terms.
If we'd had Vorm and Swansea had Green the result would not have been 0-5. As for Fabio, that's something else.
No team has been relegated on the first result. As said before there are 37 more games to go. We were **** make no doubt about it, but ffs, surely it can't get any worse.
Good OP Sooper, welcome back Imaz. Swans finished well today, but only had 6 or 7 chances. I have never seen a team indugle in as much shirt pulling as they did in the first half, usually unpunished. Our defense was missing in action second half, Fabio ( still trying to work out what position he thought he was playing in, because it certainly wasn't left back) and Cisse ( sorry, his first touch was crap and he seemed disinterested) had shockers. Mackie not much better, Hoilett, Park and Diakite bright spots. Taarbs got his and many others' wish in what seemed to be a free playmakers role, needs to be sharper for this to work but I can see it clicking. But I enjoyed myself in the sun and standing at the top of the Loft as the black humour flowed. Also minutes applause for Macca was heartfelt and excellent. This one's out of our system now, a lot learned, expect to see defensive mid and CB purchases in the next 12 days. Top ten finish still well on, plus cup run, sorry if that upsets you Swords. Can't be arsed to read the excessive number of threads generated by this result, but sure that they include all of the entirely predictable knee jerk calls for Hughes' head, and the 'I told you so' drivel from the armchair analysts. If its what makes you happy, whine on.... New start versus the Yellow and Green Flying Vermin next week. Can't wait.
Nice post Stan - but the verb indugle has me baffled! Another one of the FFS family words no doubt. DT will be pleased!
Damn the lack of spellcheck! must write INDULGE 100 times..... Now reverted to the SB moniker as FFS was in protest at the close season rubbish. Unfortunately had unwittingly used up all my names changes (there's fickle for you) in the old account so have had to emerge like a butterfly from a new one......fresh start as a Newbie.
