I know we all want to go on a good run in Europe, and I know it's excited being back in the Europa League, but I'm kind of glad Pardew is thinking like this.

We want to be in Europe again next season, and the seasons to come, so we can keep our best players, and allow ourselves to be able to sign quality players.

I'm pretty sure, right now, we'd all take finishing 5th in the premier league, getting Europe again next season, at the cost of not getting to the later stages of the competition, and trying again next year.

It's better than going far, but say, getting knocked out in the quater/semi finals, which would be impressive, but if It effected our league form that much, we could face not being in the competition next year, which would almost certainly lead us to losing some of our best players.

The premier league campaign HAS to be first on our list, because It will define our future.

Realistically, the only way our Europa League campaign will have much impact on our future, is If we win it. No point in letting ourselves slide down the table, if we don't make our spell in Europe count.

I would like to give it a good go, but Is it worth risking our premier league campaign that much over? Not IMO, not unless we somehow manage to get to the final stages.

I'm not saying we shouldn't try, but I'm saying most likely, we will not win it, so best to maintain our high position in the premier league, or maybe even try to qualify for the Champions League.

If we get knocked out early on, It will be a disappointment, but at least we can focus on our premier league campaign, and quality for Europe again, or maybe more.

And we still have the Carling and Fa cups we could try and win remember!

But do you not think we'll be stuck in a vicious cycle of neglecting the Europa League in order to get into Europe again the next season? Then once again saying the Premier League is what we're concentrating on instead of trying in Europe

No. I'm just saying this season, I don't think we'll be strong enough to go too far in the Europe League AND finish high in the premier league.

I want to give it a go, but Premier league should be our priority this season.

I'm saying we should give it a go, but focus mainly on the premier league so we can qualify for it again, then I reckon we'll be able to sign more quality, and then next season we'll have the tools to be able to really threaten the Europa League AND finish high in the premier league.

This season, I don't think it's such a good Idea to really put everything on the line to try and win Europe, because winning it is the only thing that will justify us slipping down the table.

I want us to do well in the Europa, but until my ST covers European home matches (which will be precisely never), I hope we do well in the league first...

Honestly though, I think a couple more additions and we could give a good challenge on both fronts. Possibly a little short in back-up strikers and CBs etc at present.

Agreed. Another CB and maybe a striker and I think we could do it. But we should make sure the league comes first.

I think we really need a trophy, so I'd go all out in the League and the LC, play young players in the FAC and a balance in Europe.

I really would love to see us win a cup in the foreseeable but I don't want us to jeopardise our league campaign. Saying that for the first time in years I feel confident competing on lots of fronts and am optimistic if we can close the transfer window out with the team still intact! We have a really strong starting 11 and quality in reserve, tbh I'm suprised everyone isn't more optimistic, you've all been listening to Mr T too much!!!

I'm not sure we'll win anything this year but I'm thinking the boys we have are going to instill our hope and excitement of the 90's and 00's and do us proud HWTL!

That's why we don't bother with Europe until we have the team to win it come on martin. No good being also rans is it.
Maybe 2years with Martin might see us trying it out who knows. My hopes for this year is top half finish and with luck a run in the cup competitions...

Good luck this year boys whatever you go for

Pardew is obviously clueless. We all know full well that if we do well then Tash will come first! And second... third... fourth...
