Mad to think Thierry Henry left Arsenal for the same price, shows how quickly transfer fees have gotten out of control!

That was my thought initially, though if Fletcher is worth £13m +, maybe it's realistic.

Would still mean that we managed to buy Cisse, Cabaye, Tiote and Carrol with the money we got for Carroll

Obviously would still represent great business but I think if it to be done, it will be done cheaper on deadline day. I feel a compromise of 14m-15m will be the figure. I think he looked in good nick last night and he would be an excellent addition. We are not under any pressure striker wise so its a nice scenario for us.

Interesting now we've completed Anita to read Frank de Boers comments. Clearly a player he thinks very highly of and nice to hear him speak well of us.

You know what decent British players fees are like, always a couple mill chucked on.

I think with this one, we really do hold quite a bit of power as the dippers don't want him... he wants here.... we want him here.... and he most likely won't accept going anywhere else...but us.

Brilliant idea! But I think if anyone is going to us him as a bridge (he's tall enough), it should be Sunderland considering they want to build another one (which will cost millions I'm sure) and they've already wasted millions on a paddling pool nobody has used...

I think if we genuinely wanted him as a footballer, we'd just wait. As you say ACS, he wants to be here, they don't want him, so waiting will lower his price-tag and wage-demands further...

He isn't even worth 5 million in my honest opinion!

We could sign much better than him for half the price.

All he has is a good head and thats it

He is obv worth more than 5 million but i do agree with what your saying, for 15 million we could get debuchy and douglas and stick with what we have striker wise until jan...

yes take carrolls heading ability out the game he is very average but that is why people want him so they can whip cross' in and that

No point though the day of lumping balls in to primates is over thus proved by Spain. If you want a big guy to come on a throw hopeful balls at just sign Nicholas Valuev .

Not necessarily, Andy Carroll can give you a total different dimension...If your opposition are playing the 'barca' style then you wont be able to get the ball, therefore bring Carroll off the bench and bypass there whole midfield out and hope to score like that...ugly but still effective

Ok we will have to agree too disagree, however I wouldn't take Andy Carroll unless it was a free and I'd prefer we spent money on a striker that's world class for 17 million.

This is my thinking. We have them bent over and its just when we enter now! <laugh> As for the other comments about Carroll being average, just an aerial threat and not worth the money, each to their own. I think the other aspects of his game are vastly underrated. His ability to bring others into the game, act as a focal point for your attack and win free kicks in very dangerous positions is an excellent option to have.

He is no 35m man but if you offered me him or Fletcher for 15m I'd be tempted to go Carroll despite the goal tallies.

Why not just buy a good striker for 10-15 million instead????

Why not just sign Jordan Rhodes? He'd cost 5-8mill max, is a similar player to Carroll, except good with his feet, and has some pace, and he isn't on 80kpw.

    Seems logical to me...

Why when you can get a top player like Carroll for the same? You don't rate Carroll and that's fine but I think you're missing a trick. Having watched him at close quarters for us I know he is unplayable at his best. The backend of last season, the Euros and early part of this pre season suiggests he is back in that sort of form. Cracking player for me.

I do like Jordan Rhodes though and have been banging on about him since the start of last season when I saw him for Sctoland U21's against Holland U21. He and Jamie Forrest of Celtic were top class against a very very strong dutch side including the likes of Leroy Fer.
